Hi all. I'm new to the site. I'm considering a 2014 Durango Limited. I went to the local dealer and checked a few out. I need one with a v6 and a towing package. The local dealer had a few that had the hitch receiver but it didn't list tow package as one of the options on either the sticker or their website, My question: If it has the wiring and hitch receiver, does it have a tow package? I don't trust what dealers tell me.

The trailer tow group has the following:

220-Amp Alternator
7 and 4 Pin Wiring Harness
Class IV Receiver Hitch
Full Size Spare Tire
Heavy Duty Engine Cooling
Rear Load Leveling Suspension
Steel Spare Wheel

Yes, I know what is involved with the trailer tow group.. My concern is that there were several Durangos on the lot that had hitch receivers and 7 pin wiring harnesses. Yet, it doesn't list Towing package on the window sticker or on their online site. Would it come from the factory with a hitch receiver and wiring harness without a tow package or did it just not get mentioned on the sticker or site?
Example this vehicle: 2014 Dodge Durango Limited Miami FL | Fort Lauderdale Pompano Beach Hollywood Florida 1C4RDHDG5EC304979

I was redirected to the mobile page (not sure if you meant that or not) but I dont see it specifically listing any group options. I did see this "Automatic rear suspension levelling Rear Load Leveling Suspension" which is part of the tow package.

My R/T was listed for sale on the dealership website and the description on it was iffy. I don't remember exactly what was listed but it named things I knew weren't included when I ordered it.

Thank you. I noticed the "Automatic rear suspension levelling Rear Load Leveling Suspension" too. I also noticed that it said: Customer Preferred Package 23E Premium Group $ 2,395
Perhaps part of that package is towing.

I think that it is a safe assumption after looking at the window sticker for that vehicle, that it does not come with the factory tow package and the dealer had a hitch installed.
Just my opinion.
I think there is a way to find out by running the V.I.N. that pulls up all of the factory installed options. I might have to ask for that next time I go by.

you can do that by clicking on the link that you provided and then clicking on the window sticker link. The window sticker lists all of the factory installed options. If you go to Dodge's website and do a search for vehicles, each vehicle that comes up you can do the same thing, click on the window sticker and all of the factory installed options and packages will come up.

Owners section if you enter a Vin you can see standard equipment and optional equippment

I also don't see any evidence on the sticker that this vehicle has the tow package. It is not part of the Premium Group, and no mention of leveling rear suspension on the the sticker either.

Full-size spare would be a quick check.

...tom

Mine wasnt on sticker either Tom but on my build sheet it has everything except the hitch itself. 220a alternator, heavy duty engine cooling, load leveling rear shocks, trailer wiring(must be up over the spare). But no hitch I dont need anyway

With the V6 you need to have the factory tow package.
The Hemi comes with everything except the hitch/connector. So with the Hemi option, you can just add a hitch.
NOT so with the V6.

All the Durango's have the load level rear suspension...its the JGC that doesn't and which is added to them when the tow package is checked.

However, the V6 will not have the heavy duty cooling or larger alternator without adding the tow package. No way I would tow with the V6 without those added from the factory.

I have 2014 with V6 and factory tow package.
Do you think I can tow motorcycle trailer. The bike weights 800 ponds the fla
T motorcycle trailer is also heavy steel at 4 thousand pounds. I I know rating is higher just wonder if anyone has tried something similar and been able to drive at decent speeds thru small hills or flats.

I went back and checked. None of the Limited models had towing packages. In fact I'm hard pressed to find any V6 Limited with tow packages here in South Florida. I have a pop-up camper that probably weighs around 3000 lbs. I currently tow with a 2004 Grand Caravan with 120,000 miles on it. It's usually packed full with wife, kids, dog, wood, luggage and cooler. Obviously, with a Durango I'd have to either put more of the stuff in the camper or take less.

Not true some of the RWD Hemi's do not come with heavy duty cooling or alternator, These were options on my R/T they came with one of the other PKGs I ordered

NOT True again Some of the base models do not

AGREED Only tow up to 1500lbs w/o tow pkg on V6

A bit of a travel from South Florida though.
Agree. I would ask your local dealer to find one. When I purchased one I told them what I needed with tow package and options xyz etc. And they found one 6 hours away and had someone deliver to my dealer.

Looking back I wish I had got the Rallye model with two package cause it comes with dual exhaust. I did not do at the time cause I did not want the 20 inch rims. I felt that there rough ride more expensive in terms of maintaining in years to come.. Do your homework and know exactly what want cause there are so many options it's easy to forget something while your trying to negotiate.
