Tow Package Only - Towing Capacity Upgrade

I decided to buy a 2021 Dodge Durango R/T AWD with 25k miles over the weekend. We are going to be towing a big camp trailer with this thing a few times a year so I wanted to make sure to get the Tow n Go package.

I admittedly didn't do as much research as I should've on these Durangos, the salesman told me this one has the Tow n Go package. He even showed me the window sticker and it said "Tow Package" which means it's equipped with the class 4 hitch and a trailer brake.

I've been going nuts the last few days trying to figure out where the tow mode button was, only this morning I realized the "Tow Package" is different than the "Tow n Go package".

The towing capacity numbers for a Tow n Go is 8700lbs and the regular R/T (in AWD) is 7200lbs.

Bearing in mind I do have the trailer brake and class 4 hitch, what's all needed to equip my R/T like the Tow n Go for hitting a similar towing capacity? Links are much appreciated.

Post your towing question in the Towing sub-forum. The TNG has SRT brakes, performance pages and SRT exhaust. The brakes are a fairly common upgrade that people do though it requires SRT or Trackhawk wheels, or knockoffs of the same, to fit the Brembos. There are about 1 million posts asking this same question. Well, maybe not quite a million, but still enough that you could search the forum for them. You won't be able to get the performance pages to work - others have tried and failed, one just recently.

I had the 2014 R/T and now the 2021 tow n Go they tow very similar I may have liked the 2014 slightly better . Same load Yamaha 24' boat 6200 lbs

Do you notice the added features when you're towing?
Two N Go's big caliper/rotor and adaptive shocks helps when you tow I guess. Tow package has the same engine/trans cooling as TNG.
The tow mode basically split 50/50 tq on front and rear wheels.

TnG has Brembos which is in my opinion 75 percent of the ability to tow high loads
The Tow package has the same brakes as an R/T standard or for 2023, V6 GT andf R/T standard have the same HD brakes. F'ing terrible. You would think the R/T standard should get the B9 brakes but noooooo.

FWIW I did search the forum and Google for more info about this, and somehow I didn't find what I was looking for. The recommended posts from here have all the info I was looking for and more. If a mod wants to delete this post feel free.

Aren't the brakes on RT same as the ones that on RAM1500 P/U?
Do you notice the added features when you're towing?
The biggest thing that I noticed was when I hit tow mode on the 2021 the suspension stiffens up and the ride is very bumpy. I switched it off and it rides better . Of course the brembo brakes work amazing but the boat trailer has brakes and I keep on top of the maintenance to make sure they work at the peak performance. While towing I leave a large buffer to the car in front the last thing you want is to rear end someone while towing. Im not sure what would happen if you slammed the brakes it could jack knife due to the brembo vs the 2014 brakes

Take it back and get a tow n go.... And smack the salesman

There is nothing you can do to increase your 7200lb rating so it's really all pointless if you need to tow more or get close to that max

If you're staying under the 7200lbs and want to be safer then yes, brake upgrades will help as well as upgrading the suspension spring rates and damping.

No. I have a 2020 RAM limiter and the brakes and rotors on the RAM are definitely bigger than the standard R/T brake and rotor setup.

I do not believe there is anything you can do to increase the tow rating from 7200 lbs to 8700 lbs. I recall seeing a video on You Tube by Alex on Auto where he explains that the Tow N Go shares the same rear axle configuration as the SRT, which contributes to the higher towing capacity. You may want to check it out.

The only thing you can do is get a weight distribution kit which increases the tongue weight and makes towing a little easier and ur 7200 pound u have to take into account all the passengers and what you are towing
