Hey all, I've been reading some threads around things folks have done with their Durangos, but I'm having a little trouble figuring out two things specifically:

-What kind of mods can I do specifically to the Tow and Go?
-What can be done to it without voiding the warrantee, but still net me some increase in HP and torque, and some 'fleetness of foot'?

I am coming from a Challenger R/T, thinking about a Durango Tow and Go. I would LOVE an SRT but I can't stomach the red interior on the new 23s and I really want a bench seat for ease of taking dogs places without them jumping through gaps in the rows.

Given that I would buy a new Durango TNG, what could I do that wouldn't void my warrantee but would net me some power gains and hopefully a slightly sportier feel to it (coming from the Challenger)? I'd be open to the idea of a supercharger, but after the warrantee is over.

Some things I've read so far I could do:
-CAI
-6.4 intake manifold
-Change out exhaust (Still relevant on the TNG since it has performance exhaust?)
-Throttle body
-Pedal Commander (not sure what this actually does)

I've seen people post about these things but I haven't been able to determine what it actually DID for them in terms of driving feel/adding any actual performance.

Would really appreciate some thoughts from you folks on how to reliably add even 40-50 HP on the TNG without busting my my new SUV. Thanks!

None of that would net you more than a couple of HP. The TNG is already something special with just about everything the SRT has including the SRT exhaust, except for the engine. A CAI is about all that anyone adds to them. You won't ever get near the HP of the SRT without supercharging it or doing something more extreme like dropping a 6.4 motor in it. The SRT intake will get you better throttle response if you utilize the short runners. The throttle body, not so much. The car is already a fun one that sounds good and looks good so not much needs to be done.

Brembos, drive modes (I know 90% I will be at Normal)and SRT adaptive suspensions are the best parts. Unlike any loud exhaust, these are cost $$$.
Initally I was thinking the RT+ with just the tow package and now just can not be happier with the TnG.

Only thing I do not like is those tires. Well, I love the fact that they are 20x10 with 295s but I just hate Run-Flat Tires.

I also had a Challenger RT before this, Durango is slower than that, considering it weights 5500lbs. And that means an extra of 20-30 hps is not going to do anything.

Also remember, with the run flat tires you don't get a spare tire or tire tools now.

@MajinKnux my answer is you are waaaayyyyy over thinking this. and I did the exact same thing.

wait until you actually drive a new Tow N Go. after a proper break-in of course. wait until you actually drive a TNG in SPORT or TRACK Mode. there is nothing slow or sluggish about a TNG in SPORT or TRACK.

no, you won't do a 4 wheel burn out. buy a HC or a SRT for over the top, crazy fun antics. but anything short of a 4 wheel smoke show or trying to actually race your Durango can be done and enjoyed in a TNG.

Deleted for 2023 models?
On my 22 TNG there is a compact spare with a cheap jack.
So does mine. I do like the stock run-flat Pirelli tires. I find they have good traction, were surprisingly good in winter conditions for the short period of time I used them prior to switching to my winter tires and are great when towing.

I totally agree with the others that the TNG is very enjoyable to drive as it is without any modifications.

Do not buy a pedal commander. starting with MY21, the transmission programming is perfection when you are in Sport Mode. When in regular drive mode (non eco) the shifting is ultra smooth with no lag. Eco mode is mushy slow shifting to the next higher gear. Stick with regular or sport mode you will love it.

I am the opposite haha no offence but I never like run flat tires.
And yes I also heard that they are surprisingly good in winter conditions.
But I still put rated winter tires on, too much of snow in Ontario.

Totally agree on the need for winter tires in Ontario! This winter sure is a doozy!

I know what I'd do if I owned it and wanted more go.
I toss the 3.09's and install the SRT 3.70 gears as you have the e-diff already and the wiring to accept the SRT rear e-diff. Or at a min. for the 3.45 Jeep diffs with the e-diff rear which I believe was on the JGC trailhawk or similar offroad version of the GC.
Then I'd put long tube headers and the 392 intake. The intake provides a good boost to Tq down low and through out the mid-range....and I have Jay Greene Racing provide me a tune.

What the sport and track mode does for HP that you can 100% feel, it keeps the rpm in the peak HP range from 3-5K RPM. If your driving at 50mph then hit those modes it drops the transmission by 2 or 3 gears and when you hit the gas its in the meat of the power. I had the 2014 with corsa exhaust larger throttle body and the diablo tuner with tune done by Sean from Hemifever. From a dead stop the 2014 did feel faster but while driving the tow n go it hooks up and moves out faster in the drive modes when rolling. The 2014 seemed to have some transmission lag. I just wish there was a way to keep the suspension in the stock setting but power delivery in sport or track mode

@cambo, exactly. this is what people do not get about the new TNG Durangos until they actually drive one. all of us who had 5.7L HEMI's before are used to 'lazy throttle' and 'torque management'. all fancy words to say 'it feels slow off the line!'

that was me. I had a Diablo tune on my 2011 and the best part of that was the throttle advance. that by itself made my 2011 CrewLux so much more fun to drive. I was researching Pedal Commander and other things while I was waiting on my '21 TNG to be built. LUCKILY i decided I would want until after break in to start tinkering.

no need whatsover with the new Drive Modes.

In sport mode, my ‘21 TNG definitely pulls harder than my ‘12 DD R/T AWD

You will get about a 30 hp gain with the manifold, but they could possibly void the warranty.
