I'm planning on a new set of summer tires for my 2001 D. Original set-up is 15x7 wheels, 235/75-15 tires, and 3.55 axle ratio with the 4.7 engine. I'd like to put on the widest tires I can fit on the original wheels without any other vehicle modifications. Looking at Tirerack, I'm leaning towards either the General Grabber UHP in 265/70-15 or the Goodrich Radial T/A in 255/70-15. I'll be running a second set of tires and wheels for winter use.

Any advice from others that have gone this route? Or other suggestions?

At stock height tire width is a problem in corners. Just a one inch increase in width can lead to rubbing in turns. This rubbing will reduce tire life. Changing the front bumper and doing the torsion bar/rear shackle lift tends to eliminate the problem.

You can fit any tire up to a 265/70R16 which is an 11" wide 31 " tall tire with no lift as that was a stock larger size tire
The 255/70R15 will fit with zero problems

I have the bfg All terrain ta (32x11.5) and it'll only rub slightly if you crank on the wheel all the way. I love the tires I have 56,000 miles on mine and they're still very good tread! I'd recommend them to anyone. Also not loud on the highway at all, and great off road!

Ken Your D is it 2wd or 4wd
If it's 4wd I'd get something for all year like Michelin Croos Terrains or Bridgestone AT Revos they'll serve you much better all year long
