What is the general consensus on the extended warranty. The 2015 I am going to purchase has the 5/100 powertrain which is pretty long but not sure about the 3/36 bumper to bumper if I should get that coverage extended with the nav/and all that kind of stuff kind of worry sum? Have there be many noted problems with those items? or am I being a worry wart?

Get the Max Car 7/100K or 5/100K warranty, Dodge Dealer will charge you $2000-$2500 but you can shop around and get if for $1200-$1500 I bet

$15-18 a month if your financing and you get rental car coverage, trip interruption and the warranty is transferable and prorated refundable.

piece of mind

For $2000-$2500 you can get the MOPAR MaxCare Lifetime warranty with a $100 deductible. Potentially less if your vehicle mileage is lower or close to new. Arguably the best value in manufacture warranties that exists today.

The biggest issue, besides the electronics is going to be the long term reliability of the ZF 8-speed autos. They're great transmissions, but also incredibly complex and a replacement/rebuild is not cheap.

Bump on the MOPAR MaxCare Lifetime Warranty. $2000 IF, IF you plan to keep the car 10 years otherwise probably not worth it in my opinion

I didn't realize you could get the factory extended so cheap. can you get the Max car if you are the second owner? and did not buy the car from a Dodge dealer?

Nope have to be original owner and must be under 12 month /12,000 miles.

I paid like $1425 for the 5/100 Mopar warranty. Money well spent in todays vehicles with tons of electronics and such.

We're looking on keeping this truck for at least 10 years so I just purchased my max care unlimited for $2100. My fear are all the electronics and how expensive they'll be to fix after the 3 years are up. We bought it fully loaded so now I'm worry free. Plus like mentioned above there's that very expensive transmission God forbid something goes wrong. So if you're looking on keeping it for 5+ years I'd say it's a great investment.

When I purchased my 05 used in 08 with 32k I purchased a extended warranty and gap coverage.
Mine was still under a factory warranty but, the extended warranty was only around 1k and the gap coverage was $300.

I figured it was worth the peace of mind having that extra coverage in case it was needed.

False. I am the second owner and didn't purchase mine till 28,000 miles. It did cost a little bit more because of the mileage but it was still a good deal.
I second this statement. Also second owner, purchased at 35,500 miles. I believe it was a $100 surcharge for being over 12,000 miles/1 year.

I'm not a huge fan of extended warranties but we keep are cars for a long time and drive them over 100k miles. If I can get a factory backed warranty for under $2k I might consider it, I won't do an aftermarket no matter what they cost.

The D we bought is 18 months old and still under factory warranty, no need for gap insurance needed.

I won't say it's cheap insurance but get the Mopar Lifetime coverage and hear's why we purchased the lifetime coverage on our T&C minivan and around 110k started having trouble where it would simply at random not start. Paid the $100 deductible once and due to dealer stupidity and several trips back they finally fixed the problem. Because it was through Chrysler there was never any question about getting loaner cars and the such. Not sure an aftermarket Warranty would be as seamless to getting the problem fixed.

There is a year limitation, i forget what it is, and a mileage limit of 48,000 to purchase the max care.

As far as pricing, I hit the chryslerfactoryplans.com site and priced out 2014s and 2015s new and used with varying mileage. the price always came back the same $2350 or so, in CA. I have only looked up the quick quote, would the custom quote come in lower?

Where can they be had for $2100?

Newbie here, great thread, but it looks like my Dealer did a real number on me.... I thought I had bought the Mopar Protection but discovered that they sold me a third party "The Mechanic" contract at $2999.00 for 84 mos and 100k miles. The Mopar Contract looks like a deal I would like to do but has anyone had experience with canceling a third party contract like "The Mechanic"? I am feeling more than a little sore at my dealer right now.

called dodge and for the 2015 new Durango I am going to purchase max care for as long as I own the Durango $3330 and for a bumper to bumper 7yr 100k $2620 hey both sound a bit more than you guys are talking about did you buy from a specific discount dealer? Thanks

I am a fan of extended warranties as they paid for my M-1 and my Detroit Locker installs. Actually the Detroit Locker was cheaper than the new factory diff that they were going to install.

I can tell you that replacing headlight for failed bulb in DRL is $700 + labor.

dealers make much more on the aftermarket warranties then the factory ones that's why the F&I guys push them. At the Range Rover dealership we bought our Durango at they wanted $4000 for the extended warranty. I kindly said no.

not to mention most of the 3rd party companies go out of business I wouldn't touch one ever again. I had one on my jeep that was a waste of money used it a few times but not near the amount I paid and then they went out of business like so many others do in that industry. If I knew what I know now I would have ran at the time. oh well live and learn.

As for canceling the plan read through the contract and see what it says, here is an article I found on the subject:
