Welcome to our site. From what I have seen over the years here:
Our D's have a few inherent things that'll go wrong with them. This is in regards to the Gen1 that you have. I guess we're still learning about the Gen2s. It has more to do with which engine more then anything else. None that I have seen have been major problems and there are fixes to these little inconveniences that make them go away. I won't go into specifics right now, we can address those in the future as you have more questions.
So yes, the real issue as stated above is the gas mileage. That's an unfortunate one because that's one that's virtually impossible to fix. Other then that, it's really great vehicle and easy to work on when compared to what else is out there. It's also quite reliable so we don't have to be fixing them all the time.
Of course there are some of us who are working on them a lot because we like to tinker?That's a whole different story?
