Tazer - Anyone tried to use it on a Durango?

No, not the thing police (taser) fire into the neighborhood baddies... I'm talking about this thing:

http://www.zautotech.com/tazer.html

I just bought that for my new 2015 Charger Scat Pack I picked up yesterday. The Scat Pack compliments the Durango quite nicely (Bright White Durango, Ivory White Pearl Charger) and it sure as hell is fast! :)

However I was checking out some posts related to the Charger and people were talking about how additional options could be enabled in uConnect and the EVIC using this "Tazer" device. After thinking it over and the fact the Scat Pack is damn near a full SRT car - I wanted the rest of the bells and whistles in the infotainment system. So I bought it.

I sent them an email and asked if it would support the 2014 Durango, since they say they support the 2015 Durango. They responded and said it should work, but if not to let them know and they'll work with me on a firmware update to fix it. Pretty neat - not sure what it will do. However one feature was "100% RWD on an AWD vehicle". HMM......... :)

I did a quick search here and came up empty handed. I will post an update when I receive the device and will let you guys know what, if anything it does on my 2014 Durango R/T AWD.

I emailed the developer and we'll see. I gave him a list of things.

1. Ability to save ECO or change the default behavior.
2. The ability to get some kind of a sport mode or revised shift strategy.
3. Performance Page / SRT Page / EVIC Upgrades. Think Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8.

This sucker made a hell of a difference on my Charger Scat Pack though. Breaks the tires loose on 1-2 and 2-3 now without really trying. Drives smoother and the overall transmission programming is much better. I got all kinds of new features on that car but in the Durango, we are not getting much love. I tried to apply the previous 7/15/15 UConnect update after enabling "Super Track Pack" and "Performance Pages", but it didn't give me anything.

</thread> :)

Seriously I've successfully jacked this thread. Oooops. Now it's the tazer + what do you do for a living thread :)

I'm sure it'll be just fine. The meat and potatoes are all in the first few pages :)

FWIW, I just bought this thing. I am VERY interested to try it out :) it's actually reasonably priced. I think that I should be able to get legitimate 1320 times with both linelock and AWD control. No more torque management issues when power transfers from rear to front due to slippage This seems counter-intuitive since it stands to reason that AWD would "hook up" better, but I don't know how much wheel spin I will get...

Too bad Diablo didn't just add these tuneables... or maybe they will and I just jumped the gun :(

can i suggest 1 more potential "upgrade" for taser development ?

-- moving rev limiter to 6K rpm in neutral and park.

Its a shame not to be able to rev up the motor in neutral/park to hear that great hemi sound. as is, the rev limiter cuts out at 3500 rpm in park/neutral. for reference, the new mallfinder i mean pathfinder lets you rev to redline in park/neutral. i realize this could overheat the cats, but we'll be smart about it, I promise :)

Yeah, it's totally not fair. Sometimes we just want to show off a little bit!

Vroom Vroom :)

Holy smokes Miranda, I just looked at the dyno link and pics in your sig. Are you serious ?!? Do you beat up on the suburb moms in their minivans? Im pretty sure you need to call Dodge and get in their next TV commercial. I thought my R/T was tough.

Im not sure what sort of S/C you are running in there but .. if you need a cog set up (which will make it go from mean to satanic), let me know. We build all sorts of custom cog SC set ups for VW and Audi guys. Shoot me a PM.

I cant imagine a supercharged R/T, its already pretty trigger happy :) :) :) :)

Well, you know how it goes :) the sad part is that I'm running out of mods. I could do headers/cam but I think that would really stretch the capabilities of tuning the ECU as well as the torque handling capabilities of the 8HP70 transmission... Sure, I could go nuts and buy a 6.4L crate block and a worked over 8HP70 and have a little side project (headwork, intake work, forged internals, etc...) and somehow stitch it all into the Durango, but IDK if "the juice is worth the squeeze".

Let me get it to the track and see what kinda times I get. I'm willing to bet that a regear to SRT gears would be more cost effective if it is technically viable.

The 3.70's from 3.09's would make a pretty decent difference in performance, especially in AWD. You can probably run a 3.92 if you wanted to. It would certainly help the off the line performance. However with the first gear in the 8HP70, I personally wouldn't go any more than the 3.70 which is stock in the JGC SRT8. Problem is, it's not a cheap swap being AWD. I'd probably just find low mile SRT8 third members and swap them complete. Then get the tune updated to account for the new axle ratio.

General Update:

I have provided the developer a download of the Body Control Module (BCM) on my 2014 Durango R/T. He also provided me with a pre-release firmware which has a couple of enhancements, one of which I think people will like related to the Lightshow. :)

I also provided a dump of my Charger Scat Pack. So we'll see if it helps.

Again a few key things I mentioned to the developer:

1. Disable ECO at startup by default.
2. EVIC and 8.4 Enhancements.
3. Reduce Miranda's max throttle open position to 20%.
4. Attempt to add some form of sport mode or improved shift performance.
5. Oh man, wouldn't rev matched downshifts be awesome?

Soo any update on the most important part, which is the AWD to RWD? Have you been able to do any RWD burnouts or what?

Light Show: Using the keyfobw or steering wheel buttons and added dash menu, turn on a light show that flashes the exterior lights in 5 different patterns. Perfect for car shows. User configurable in firmware version 2.1.8 and up.

You should be able to leave the Diablo tune in place. The Tazer just sends commands on the car's computer network to tell modules to do certain things that they already know how to do (such as activate the front ABS pump for line lock or flash exterior lights). The Diablo tuner reprograms the engine computer for different performance. I used to have a Diablo tune and the Tranzformer (from Z Automotive, the maker of the Tazer) on my Charger and they complemented each other nicely.

OP are you ever going to give us any info? It's been 3 weeks since you started this thread and so far the only thing you've told us this thing can do for sure is flash our lights? Not really worried about flashing lights but I am very interested to know how the other functions work

What do you want to know? RWD mode works, traction control can be fully defeated and you can do a one tire fire burnout (I spun it a few revolutions to test). Sorry I can't be here constantly but I was just in Memphis for a week on business. I can't test the vehicle when it's sitting in my garage nor did I have time for forum posting during 14 hour work days.

My initial update indicated that these items did work. I am not using line lock mode since I have no need for that on my Durango but I have no reason to suspect it won't work. I am still working with the developer and as mentioned, I sent a download to him from the 2014 Durango R/T with my feedback.

Since the OP is busy with his crazy work schedule I contacted the seller and referenced this post for some clarification on what will and wont work as well as any updates he plans to add fro the OP data dump he provided. Maybe even get a group buy going? If he replies to my email I will buy one today and report back with all I find out on it.

Here is what I found out from the owner just now, guess I will order one right now:

I did get the data dump from him, but as of yet haven’t had a chance to really dig into seeing what else I can unlock. I had a locak guy with a 2014 durango 5.7 come to my office, and we were able to test out Force RWD mode, force AWD, line lock and the 5 light shows, and operating the light shows from the keyfob. All that worked.

I set SRT mode – and that enabled some SRT performance option page like the Hellcat cars have – but I had the same “red key” issue that I have with the cars – the car is blocking out sport and track mode because it sees a black key instead of a red key. So in a nutshell, as of now there are none of those extra screens working.

I never stop working at this, so I’m sure I’ll crack that sooner or later – I’m working on getting newer software tools, and once I have them I can dig deeper to get that working. But for now, if you’re looking to do burnouts, donuts, or just flash the lights at a car show, this will work out of the box. I haven’t updated the website yet (says 2015 durango/JGC only, but 2014 works too).
