Thank you for taking the time to check out this post, Im seeking help with a wiring issue Ive placed it under Towing because as near as I can figure that is what caused the issue in the first place. When I first got this durango I soon found the trailer electrical connection had, had some sort of fire in it the wires were scorched and the insulation gone I removed it and turfed the connector and the affected wires after much messing around I was still unable ot get the lights to work it turns out that the inside of the bulb housing had rusted clean away from water getting inside the housing I fixed it and on bench testing it works but not on the truck I even put the other taillight assembly to test it and despite it working perfectly on the pass side it did not function on the drivers side.

I clipped the wires today and using my multi meter on the setting that emits a tone when you complete a circuit like touching the probes together or on the ends of the same wire and to my astonishment with one probe clipped to the ground wire and testing the other remaining wires one at a time I got a tone on 4 of the wires then I tested with the key in the Acc on position and I got tone on 2 of the wires and the voltage was 12volt on only one wire with key on.

now this throws me for a loop because why am I getting ground through 4 wires that are supposed to be positive 12v?

the fuses seem fine I cannot see any bare wires so Im at a loss to see what the problem is especially since its not the same in the key on and key off positions and its not all the lights not functioning at the same time as some things do work like it may blink for turn signal but the park lights wont work.

any help would be appreciated

How far up the harness did you check before the repair was made? Maybe there's a short or further fire damage farther up past the repair?

Ill check today I uncovered the wiring harness last night from the tail light to the fuse box it got dark so I stopped it looked ok from what I saw

well its gets worse it seems before I got it the owner had removed the tow park turn signal relays when i swapped them with the wiper relays (they are all the same" all manner of crap went on the signal lights and hazards when on with the park lights the gas and temp gages flashed as well as did all the interior lights a god awful buzzing came from the fuse box under the hood I rushed and disconnected the pos to the battery everything on the real tail light was working except the park lights Im wondering if when the last person owned it and they had the electrical fire in the tow connection if it fried the computer or something?
