Stuck in 3rd Gear, after oil pan replacement

So after spending too much $ on oil pan replacement, I picked up the 17’ RT AWD from shop & on way home I noticed it was idling different. Next morning upon cold start it sounded rattley as I approached the front end (remote start)… then got in & as I started driving, I saw dashboard lights flash.. stability control & check engine! &… it was then stuck in 3rd gear!!

I slowly brought it back to the shop & told them… they put me in a rental & it’s been 4 days. What are your thoughts? I’ve seen comments online that it could be from trans solenoid, conductor plate, TCM software, new tranny, to restart car 3 times in a row?

"Reyrey.net" is a Reynolds and Reynolds website that develops and supports software for automotive retailers. This may include pictures or videos so customer can track their vehicle's activity while in service. They may also partner with Dominion Enterprises which owns Dealer Specialties. Not sure what tracking software may run with this. Can you download the video or is it a live stream?

Never mind. I used a secure safe browser for that. It seems OK.

Well. . . . Great that the evidence was not hidden. The "alleged negligent party company " forgot an O-Ring seal near the pickup and this damaged the engine.

Thanks for sharing the video. With your permission, here is a YouTube upload. Most people are nervous about selecting links from servers they are not familiar with. Hope this helps. Let me know.

It is important you download a copy before it disappears. This is important evidence along with the dealer documentation.

UPDATE: The dealer website video link that was provided is already locked down or removed.
@Adrian97c: I guess I downloaded it in time. If you need a copy let me know.

Thx! I made a screenshot recording on iOS while the website played. Not sure how else to download it from the server?

Tomorrow I’ll get the call from Dodge service writer to tell me the cost of engine replacement job… I’m dreading to hear it. I assume $12k (almost the value of the car).

Where should I go from here? I assume Dodge won’t wait around for me to find a lawyer… Do I get involved with a lawyer after I pay? Heck I don’t even have that kind of money laying around. My auto ins doesn’t cover breakdowns, although this is more than just a typical breakdown…do I reach back out to unnamed claims department about the con-job they pulled to appeal?

Thank you all for chiming in here. Lawyer has advised me before having to pay them money I don’t have to represent me, to give one last effort to reach out to Bridgestone explaining the evidence & if no response by Monday, I will have no choice but to move fwd with legal.

I will also be reaching out to the entities you have mentioned here to file formal complaints.

I have submitted a formal complaint with request for remediation with both BBB & FDACS.

I have spammed tires plus social media with my story & will continue to put pressure on them any way I can until I get a formal response.

Sadly you can expect this to be an uphill battle.

back to the waiting game…. Tick tock…… fingers crossed!

Some engine refurbish or rebuild companies are retail sellers that do not actually manufacture or rebuild the engines. The reseller will buy at wholesale and pass some savings to the customer. Also, some resellers may offer better savings and warranties that the manufacturer/rebuilder.

LKQ-ATK sells engine rebuilds to many engine retailers. I had a retailer sell me a Ford 4.0L V6 rebuild from LKQ-ATK. The engine failed within a month due to a build defect. This may not be typical and could have been an anomaly. The engine was replaced including parts and labor under warranty and has been working great for the last 10k miles. Although inconvenient, the positive outcome was only possible by purchasing a decent warranty plan, following the seller requirements 100%, and keeping the best documentation and communications with the installer, retailer, and builder when necessary.

However, your warranty agreement may be with the retailer so compliance with the retailer requirements and instructions is most important including break-in period requirements and maintenance service intervals. The retailer reputation is on the line and they will be your advocate with the builder. They also may be aware of certain higher risk components and make sure the latest OEM parts or in some cases, improved performance aftermarket part is used as part their contractual build requirement. The retailer may also have much more contractual influence than you may have if you were dealing directly with the builder, who many not have the same urgency or customer service skills the retailer may have. These are just some things to consider when getting a rebuild.

No one ever said mechanics were properly skoold. Heck, most people on the internet aren't either, including editors.

Sad update:

Bridgestone offered a settlement of only $7k which leaves a balance owed to Dodge of $3800 😫.

I’m exhausted & feeling defeated.
Not sure the prices, try this link for a rebuild:

This whole thing is complete nonsense! You paid these jokers in good faith to perform a service, and they royally screwed it up. You absolutely deserve to be made whole, and the offered settlement does not do that by a country mile.

On top of it all, this thing were the dealer is quoting double or better markup borders on criminal when we/you can go out and obtain the same oem parts for much less.

I feel for ya man. Firestone is doing their best to run roughshod over you when it's clear they owe much more.

Claims received the official quote from Dodge for the reman option (vs the used engine lkq), $13k…includes labor.

then Unnamed responded to me with final offer for $10,900.

now I’m at a new cross road…. Pay dodge $1k for the initial inspection, Try to sell the Durango as is for $6k obo….. & pocket the diff appx $15k…

or work with Dodge to pay the diff in repair $3k & then try to sell for $15k obo (would think I’d need to disclose that a LKQ used engine has been added)….

option 2 seems like more work.. but finding someone to by a vehicle for $6k that needs an engine might be equally or more difficult.

thoughts?

Well, at least they have moved closer to what you're owed. Have you run any of this past an attorney yet? I'm sure they don't want you to do that, because they have a better chance of pushing you around.

They should be making you 100% whole AND providing you a rental while the work is being done.

Wow you guys have been really awesome with so much helpful & insightful info!

Unexpected update: Paid Dodge $2200 for the job they provided & installing oil pan with O-Ring! This cleared all faults & no more limp mode, no more ticking!

Sold the Durango to dealer for a fair price & collected the settlement from ‘unnamed’. (Will have to edit alot of these posts I made to avoid terms of agreement).

Few weeks ago, I had no choice… I bought a Certified Pre owned Honda Pilot with only 22k miles. So I’ll be saving tons of gas money for the next few years…… I hope one day to end up in a SRT Durango, but for now I’ll be using the money earned back, to pay off the loan I took for the Pilot:
