So I recently replaced my engine with a crate motor, and I was getting at the Durango today for the front line I jacked the vehicle up and figured id shake the tires to see if I got some play from the ball joints etc. up and down it was still stiff and perfect, but I noticed when I was doing side to side the steering shaft turned back and forth with the wheel locked in the inside. Any thought?

It seems the steering rack is a high rate failure item on these based on my research. I just changed mine this weekend with a reman. It used to wobble over bumps even with new shocks, and it seems much better now, but it seems I have a little bit of slack in my column; so that will be next.

When I had my front end lifted up, I could also wiggle the wheels, but the steering wheel would move just a little bit; even when it was supposed to be locked. I think a little bit is normal, but it may be worth having a chassis/steering specialist look into it.

Yeah my wheel does wobble over bumps it appears to just be the column possibly that moves because I try to shake the wheels the steering wheel doesn’t move but the wheels do with the column
