I know wiring not mechanical so?

I have a 99 5.2L D with off road package, so a lot of skid plates under the carraige. Where can I find the starter, my D is having some problems not turning over, and also where can I find the starter solenoid? a diagram would be appreciated or description, thank you very much.

I cleaned the battery both connectors and posts, checked the voltage, even tried jump starting it to see if there was a problem there. No start would occur.

I then tried finding the starter, but well, I didn't know where it was so went to option 2.

Tried to find the clicking sound, it seemed as if it was coming from the ABS thing on the driver fender, or near the fuse box under the hood, but I couldn't pin point location.

I took it to the mechanic and they said my starter was going, battery checked out fine and when they went to check the voltage on the starter, he said it'd blow the 20 amp circuit breaker in the meter, every time it was started.

I have ordered a new starter and will go in tomorrow, but I'm still wondering what went wrong?
