Heck I just open the hood and spray it down with the hose every now and then. As long as you aren't blasting an open filter element or the under the hood fuse block it isn't gonna hurt anything. Every electrical contention is a weather pack and if oil isn't leaking out water sure isn't gonna get in.
Cat isn't a DD, so I keep the engine bay tidy

Didn't read through all the posts, but has any taken their vented hood through a car wash yet? Is the high pressure spray any cause for concern?
Car wash is always a concern for the paint. Touchless car washes slowly chemically strip the paint. Touch car washes have a tendency to micro scratch the paint, sometimes more serious scratches when there is debris in the whirling wash whips.

As far as water going done into the hood area, there are water shield(s) that need to be installed with the hood. The PCM for sure.

If there was a concern it wouldn't be on there from the factory.

I'm pretty sure the PCM cover is just for looks. If you look down through the passenger side heat extractor without the cover on it you can see it plan as day. And it's not attractive. I had my hood on before the part number for the cover was found, and I had 0 concern.

All the connectors are weather packs so no water is going to get in them any way.

I've never had any issue with either style car wash harming the paint, but usually go through a touchless every couple weeks here in the winter to get the salt off.

Yeah, you'd think there would have been some IP testing done by engineering before approving the go ahead with popping holes in the hood. Still just nervous about it. Im sure it'll be fine though.

Yes all the connectors are sealed. BTW I believe they use Deutsch and MetricPak. But there is very well known issue that the test mule Durango had with stalling before the PCM cover was made. There was a member who's shop was working with them and he posted the data.

VWVortex.com - What's so bad about "touchless" car washes ?

Its in Mercedes and BWM owners manuals even "DO NOT USE touchless" the chemicals used to dissolve the filth that it gradually eats the paint. It also strips wax. Then all car washes recycle water now have water "treatment" aka recycling as part of the EPA's Clean Water Act. so they are blasting you paint with high pressure salt water in the areas that salt roads, and any tiny debris that makes it through the filters.

I never saw any warning not to use touchless washes in my E90 owner's manual. Seems like a bunch of paranoid people talking without any real hard data. I could understand the detergents stripping off waxes, but they are not stripping off paint. My Bimmer had been through a touchless wash probably 35-40 times over 6 winters and the paint still looked flawless.

Oops sorry it was the benz Manual

Just about all "Touchless" car washes use hydrofluoric acid to chemically clean your paint. Although this chemical will strip clean your paint, it will reduce the life of your paint and lead to premature clear coat failure, especially if you have chips in your clear. This is particularly damaging if the acid isn't completely washed away and deposits sit in some nook or crevice.

You can feel free to research or just keep assuming its magic soap strong enough to clean with out friction yet mild enough to not hurt anything, and everyone in the industry are paranoid.

Adding pics and some info on how to make the oil catch can fit with the pcm cover.

1: Notch right side for catch can bracket to fit.
Image

2: Cut out the bracing to allow cover to sit flush against the bracket.
Image

3: When installing the catch can place washers between the pcm bracket and the catch can bracket. This will allow the clips to slide between and attach to the pcm bracket.
Image

4: Notch bottom right of cover to prevent rubbing on can and hoses.

This post was a lifesaver for me yesterday. I finally received the BT catch can for my wife's 18 RT and installed it. Question for you - my PCM "shimmy's" around. It's hard to explain. I can shift the whole bracket the PCM mounts to left and right. Is that normal? I'm wondering if it was a result of the accident.

Yes that is normal. Well at least mine does it so I assume it’s normal and mine has never been in an accident.

Sure thing.

Ordered/bought from local dealer (I got a 10% discount):
Hood 683096501AD $900
Silencer 68309355AD $51.98
Screw Hex x 6 6511229AA $8.10
Tax $91.21
Total $1051.29

Ordered from www.moparpartscounter.com (they give a 33% discount)
Washer Nozzles x 2 68269108AA $34.10
Bezel Hood 68309356AB $11
Bezel Hood 68309357AB $11
Bezel Hood 68321446AB $17.22
Tax $0
Shipping $6.86
Total $80.18

Brought from eBay
Pin Push (silencer) x 9 04878883AA $11.77

Dealer Body shop is doing the paint
$381.06

So the Grand Total will be $1524.30. They are painting the next week so I hope to have it on by next week end. I'm pretty mindful of my money and this was the most cost effective way to purchase everything. So if you have any questions just ask.

On a side note: The hood part number has changed according to the parts guy I talked to today The new part number is: 683096501AE

You can probably get away with reusing the washer nozzles, but I just ordered new ones because I heard they break easy. You may also choose to get a new Hood lead edge seal (68084598AC). I'm going to re use mine and just get new pins from Lowes if need be.
Hey bro, I think I just about read this entire thread. Good stuff! I’m going to use your list to do the same. You said you got your hood from a local dealership? I’m military as well, do you think all dealerships will honor it?

I have no ideal. Couldn't hurt to ask. If you're in a military town chances are they might.

Yea I’ll give it a shot. I’m in Virginia I just wanted to be sure it was a dealership you went to. I’m willing to drive a bit to pick it up from another place if the price was right.
Yes it was my local dealer here I got the hood from. Shipping would eat up any of the savings you'd get from the online discount place, if they will even ship it because some wont. When I did all the leg work to get my hood buying it from my local dealer was the cheapest.

For sure, it looks like I’m finding the same thing but I was going to try to take it a step further and order online/ call to attempt a local pickup l. Some sites have their addresses on their site. If they are close enough I figured i would shoot my shot. Or see if they would price match! Still your dealer price wasn’t bad I see that and the paint will be the most.
