Should I go SRT or RT AWD?

Hello, long time Mopar buyer. Every vehicle I’ve owned since 2012 has been a Mopar. I’ve had two scat pack challengers and love the 392 motor. I am deciding between a 2018 SRT loaded except for DVD with a sticker of nearly $72k. It has 300 miles and the small town dealership has had it for a year. No issues. They are desperate to get rid of it. Got them down to $57,000. I have the funds to purchase it and insurance is fairly cheap. I am also looking at a 2019 DRT AWD with black top and loaded as well for $47,000. Anyone; have thoughts that they don’t need the SRT and could save some cash? I fear I may regret not getting the SRT since I’ve been only considering that. The responsible adult in me has reared its ugly head though. Thx!!

Do you have budget for speeding tickets? ; )
I have an RT and can say without preamble that my husband and I are speed freaks. Yes; there are moments that I want an SRT for sure. But its still a big box (sorry y'all; IMO) and a Dodge. If I am going to drop the money on a speed demon it'll be on a sexy sports car that can take the curves. Don't misunderstand I love my RT- and I love the SRT more. (Dodge crushed my soul when I found out they'd anchored the SRT in the burnout ad so I might still be bitter.) There is a lot you can do with $10K. I occasionally pine for the SRT but I've still taken lots of little sports cars off the line and motored around people with their jaws hanging open. I think I want an SRT the most when I see someone else in one because I have the cheap one LOL.

You really have to go with your gut.

You can't compare the SRT with a "sexy sports car". The SRT is marketed and designed as a high performance SUV. The car may take the curves better but, it won't do it with 6 people on board. You won't be able to take your sports car shopping and load it up and still smile on the way home. The 2009 Durango was a "big box". I'm not so sure this current gen qualifies as such.
As a previous owner of an R/T, I'm curious which sports cars you've taken off the line?
Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and we each have our own tastes. I just don't agree with how you present your case to avoid an SRT.

For 57,000; that’s a really good deal. Even if your into missing out vehicles to assess power gains and put your own little style in it, you still won’t be able to make 392 power for $10k unless it’s boost. Then you still lose out on the SRT pages, towing capabilities, upgraded suspension, etc...

I’m a RT, when I bought mine there were no used SRTs unless I probably would have went that route. However I have love modding cars and seeing what power can be made, so that was part of the reason for choosing 5.7L.

I hearya.my wife was dead set on getting the second row bench......when I bought our 18 SRT that was NOT an option.
FCA has some very strange "packaging".

After dealing for hours with the dealership, I should have walked away but in my frustration I overrode my wife's "need" for this second row bench seat.

We came home and I begin to hear that she did NOT get anything she wanted on the SRT. Not the color, not the 2nd row bench seat and NOT The CD PLAYER.

I tired to explain to her in my most kindest gentlest voice that we would have to ORDER one and there were NO DISCOUNTS on ordering. The one we
chose or rather I chose was marked down enough that it was in my price range...or OUR price range.

After months of complaining I suggested she order her OWN Durango to get what she wants. Her 2003 Honda Accord with 200K is ready for a new owner.

SO now she goes to the Dodge website to build her own.

Now the whole take away from this story...........it has been 7 months of ownership and not ONE person has been in the second OR third row. And with
Serius Radio.........she listens to her favorite songs. As far as the color........nothing can be done about that.

So I expect her to have her own red Durango GT with V6, CD Player, RWD, Safety Package, and that's it. Do you see how much difference there is in what
I want and what she wants?

Let us both be happy and I'll pay for mine and she can pay for hers.................and the world is at peace once more in this house..............THEE END.

I’m shocked how many people want the bench seat. I find it near worthless, personally. Especially, if you have kids in car seats. If dodge would have designed the seats for lean forward with a car seat attached, then maybe.

That being said, I have 4 kids. So, people visiting means two cars anyway.

I know I was thinking the samething those car seats take up alot of space and a 3rd car seat in the middle would semi fit in the middle row tightly. I only have 2 kids so I'm good.

It seems to be true that FCA marketing materials generically advertised Durangos including the SRT as available in up to 7-passenger configurations.

It is also true that every review (but one) I've seen of the SRT reports correctly that it's available only in a 6-passenger configuration at most (5-passenger in one package).

It is also true that it is impossible to order a 7-passenger SRT.

All three statements above can be simultaneously true.

This post I started seemed to go off on a different path lately. I’ve am on vacation and pick up my SRT this Thursday. While I am enjoying Honolulu like crazy over Midwest gloom. I am eagerly waiting to drive my new srt. Btw, I don’t care how it was advertised. For my wife and I and our two kids it’s plenty of room. If you truly need room for 7 get something bigger IMHO.

Due to expanding family...I’m coming down from a new 500hp Gen6 Camaro that weighed under 3k lbs..... I chose a used AWD R/T because I got on with DVD, blacktop package, Gloss black rims & bruiser gray paint (everything I wanted) w/ 24k miles for only $34k..... the SRTs in that price range were 2013s w/ 65k miles.

With baby on the way, wife didn’t want me to spend over $45k on the ‘Sports car to SUV’ downgrade.

I say, go w/ the SRT If babies & money aren’t an issue. I spent over $55k on the factory custom ordered 16’ Camaro & enjoyed 3 long years & 47k happy miles. Never spending that much again.
No regrets on the R/T... I will put money towards remodeling home now for the new baby... but.... won’t stop me from throwing a few bolt ons, & tunes later on so I can grab few extra HP in the meantime.

Finally picked up the 2018 DSRT. Drove it home today and it’s awesome!!! Reminds me of my Scat Pack 392 Challenger but with room for all. I highly recommend the dealership and sales staff who helped me. I will be purchasing all of my vehicles from them. Small town dealers are the best!!! It’s not fancy but damn did I get a smoking deal and an awesome vehicle and great service. They even clay barred it for me.

I’ll post pics tomorrow. If you want dealer info let me know. Not a paid endorsement just an extremely satisfied customer.

It would be nice to see a pic of what the storage areas look like that are where the third row would ordinarily be. They SHOULD be huge......

Does anybody know what the weight savings is with that package? They advertise it as the "Lightweight Performance package."

And....I found yet another error in the SRT advertising. Does anyone see a problem with this screen shot?:

Can I order a bench FRONT seat in a DSRT??? :D

Limehemi, congrats on your new ride! I read this thread with interest. I love my 2015 Citadel 5.7, it's an amazingly capable vehicle and not much I could find to complain about. But, I'm thinking of trading for an SRT. I have 64,000 miles on it, could be perfectly happy running it a few more years (I put 25,000 miles/year on it), just have an interest in the added power/handling/style of the SRT. The deals I've seen on new 2018's are nowhere near as good as the one you got, that is an amazing value. I'm seeing more like mid 60's for fully loaded ones.
