Our 2016 Durango just went through this issue. It stranded my family at a road side stop in 30* weather with no way to restart, back door inop, all shift lights lit.
Dealer said it was the shift knob but could be the wiring which was not covered in used vehicle purchase. Shift assembly is not available for 3 months at $700 to repair. Since we had just bought this rig 2016 of a used car lot, there dealer stepped in, found a shift knob from a salvage yard and swapped it. Changed a couple Star connections and the vehicle reset and was ok. I drove the Durango around town to keep it close just in case. Sure enough, it failed once again! Dealer put us in a loaner while the worked on the Dodge. They tested each dude off the connections from the PCM to the TCM.... They found that the loom to the trans got pinched and the ground to the PCM was open, in fact they pulled on the wire and it came out of the bundle. The wire was replaced, all connections were made and the Durango is operational again.... No telling how much the troubleshooting cost would have been from the dealer, the BS stories, the parts that said were replaced but really not.... The wiring from the TCM has problems, look for broken wires in the bundle... Good luck! Oh and the dealer was 95% sure it was the shift knob @ $700+..... Our dealer came through at $0 cost to us! He gets our recommendation 100%!
