Some countries require amber turn signals. For instance, the US version of the Dodge Nitro has only red tails and turns but the Euro version has amber turn signals. Same vehicle, just different rules and regulations in different parts of the world.

 

There is no official Japanese version of DD in Japan. I mean those are all parallel import and need some mods for Japanese regulations. Yes, red turn signal is not allowed in Japan and I do have the same mod.

This would reduce your reverse light output by 50%. Unless you somehow figured out how to wire it into a switchback bulb.

Is this an LED VS incandescent problem? Don't LEDs usually flash faster without load resistors installed?

 

The rear bulbs are LED from the factory but the front are incandescent. I recently installed LEDs up front but used Alfaobd to convert the front turn signals to LED. Now I wonder if he converts his front bulbs to LED and makes the change in the BCM if that will resolve the problem?

Are resistors really needed when converting to LED bulbs?

Oh wait, that rear blinker does look like it is incandescent and not an LED like the brake light is...viper74656 I think you are on to something.

Weird the vid makes it seem like the light that is flashing is incandescent yet 2018 owners manual appears to list all back lights as LED except for the backup lights?

 

So I just checked my stock BCM configuration (US model) and it shows the rear and front turn signals as not being LED. Makes sense as the brake and rear turn signals are the same light which is LED.

It also shows the turn signals use reverse lamp #2 as being assigned. The only other option is to assign it "rear turn signal" which I take it is for the Europe model.

Yet my stock BCM shows rear turn lamps are present, well the control for rear turn signals is present.

This is all quite confusing. I wonder if the wiring diagrams on chilton actually show a European model schematic?

Nope, there is no European wiring diagram but it shows the rear turn signal drivers as backup lamps.

And for completeness here is the brake light. Interesting to note the pin assignments match my BCM.

That is something I would try as well. The short circuit error you are seeing might have something to do with the incandescent bulbs being in there? There is a lot of info to shift thru concerning how the BCM is configured so it might be that there is a setting that is not enabled. For that though, it seems like a bunch of trial and error. I wonder if the Ram owners in Europe run into this issue? Usually they are a step ahead of everyone concerning car configuration changes but most use Alfaobd. Another thing you can try is to reach out the the Appcar developers. With Alfaobd the developer is pretty good at responding to issues, in fact he released a recent update to help challenger owners with 2015 models to install +2017 radios using a new BCM from a 2016 model. Our biggest ask to him was enabling VIN write capability to the BCM, which he stated is not a trivial task.

 

I tried alfaobd, changed the turn signals, everything works with the same errors. I'm waiting for LED lamps tomorrow and will try again. I hope it works

Ok so I broke out the laptop and took it with me to work so I can see what DiagFCA has to offer. Right of the bat the interface is way more intuitive and I had 4 DTCs (2x liftgate,1x driver door, 1x PCM due to it is unlocked) which I was not aware of. Not even the OBDlink app with the PID expansion addon caught these. My experience with alfaobd is I would typically have to go to each module (time consuming) and scan for codes for a more thorough scan for DTC (+1 for DiagFCA). I also like how the information was arranged and how they list out all the pre-configured feature changes that one might apply, whereas with alfa it is trial and error. So IMO DiagFCA is perfect for those that are totally new to messing with their car configuration, although I still have yet to feel compelled to make the switch from alfaOBD (still a fanboy of alfa) to DiagFCA. I may reach out to DiagFCA and see if they can make a pre-configuration for the challenger guys to enable launch control. I have sent several communications about adding such a feature to Tazer but I don't think they are interested or maybe know how to make it work for all trim levels.

Going to try it on my challenger later today to see what pre-configured changes are available. Anyways, I will try and make a new thread about it in the week or so.

BTW both AlfaOBD and DiagFCA recommend OBDlink MX+ interface.

 

Hate to revive an old thread, but ex3Dex / Duh-rango, any word on getting the settings working without hyper flashing? I'd have hoped ex3Dex posted an update after trying LEDs. I have never been a fan of the Durango's rear light setup. The 2011 I had previously I set up with sequential brake/turn signals (switched the liftgate running lights to brighter bulbs and tied to the brake/turn signal). I would like to do that with my 2022, but can't find 921 switchbacks that are red/white for the liftgate. I can find 921 switchbacks that are amber/white, so if I could activate the separate turn signal I could use those and have both bulbs used as turn signal & reverse lights.

 

Unfortunately I have not tried any of this on my 2017 and the BCM setup/available configs on the 2022s are different from my 2017.
