Lots of memories have been due to the old '99 D, but it's time to part with her. My power steering went out, and it just needs too much work to make it a good investment. 186,000 HARD miles, 3 trannys, 3 radiators, 2 xfer cases, 3 batteries, 5 sets of tires, countless ball joints and speed sensors, but it was all worth it. I'm flying to San Antonio tomorrow to pick up a 2004 Nissan Titan. The D just couldn't hack pulling the trailers anymore. She's been a GREAT SUV for me and the family over the 10 years, and we have lots of pictures and memories to share forever. I never will regret making the D my first vehicle out of school. She never stranded me, and I only got stuck 3 times out of over 100 offroad trips. Not too shabby.

For those of you that know me, keep in touch. I'm only an email away. For those of you that don't know me, and you have a technical question on the 1st Gen Durangos, feel free to contact me because I've probably seen your problem in my D. Ain't TSBs a wonderful thing! CHEERS!

Here's a few memories to share?

If you have any Gen1 parts, etc left around? I'm sure the folks here could use them. Post 'em for sale/for free or get with me and I'll do it for you. You can box it all up and ship it once and I'd distribute it out to who ever needs it. If you want, any money raised can go to the Toys for Tots drive we support at the Annual Assembly Plant Tour.

Good luck on the Titan. We had two Nissan trucks and while I felt they were under-engineered, both were Wifey driven & we were never in the shop with either. Minimal miles/usage was kind to us.

I hear the new Titans are the #1 sitting vehicle on dealers lots. IIRC, they sit over 130 days before being sold! You should be able to get a steal on a brand new one so you may want to check that out.

Ds die sooner or later? but D memories last forever. :)

It's both a good thing and a sad thing to see this post. You have been around for a long time and we have missed hearing from you as much over the past few as we know you're a true and loving fan of the D. Good luck. from GOPHOR

Got the dealer down to $17.9k on the Titan, out the door price. 49k miles, they threw in a 84/100k warranty, and I'm working on having them throw in a couple more things (4 new tires, tie downs for the bed track, etc.) before I drive it away. My dad drives one, and he loves it. Great towing vehicles for a gas engine. I almost sprung for a diesel, but the prices of fuel swayed me back to gasoline.

I have a few parts lying around the house. Here's what I know I have, and I'll put up a post in the future with everything and prices.

1) Ski rack
2) IAT Sensor thingamagiggie
3) Some security module/electronics thingie that I won at DRMR in 2003
4) spare tires 32x11.50x15 BFG KMs (local pickup only)
5) 12pt craftsman socket set for the tranny band adjustments
6) custom fabricated nerf bars (never installed), with all pieces, fasteners, paint, need a little work. HEAVY pipe! (local pickup only)

That's all I can remember off hand?

Be sure and post pics of your new ride!
Are you aware that the late 09 model of the Titan will be a rebadged Ram pickup?
Good luck with it!

Titan

Well, I picked up the Titan on Friday, and it's a dream to drive. Definitely not as nimble as the D, but hey, it's a TRUCK! Definitely MORE nimble than my buddy's F250 King Ranch PS that I drove over the weekend, tho. Found out that the Titan has a JBA cat-back and a Volant Cold Air Intake. It sounds MEAN and accelerates more like a sports car than a truck. Very nice on the snap-back, but gotta watch the lead-foot/gas-drain syndrome. ;) Nissan has definitely taken storage and amenities into account when designing this truck. Lots of little storage places and gadgets that make it very cool to drive. The factory E-locker and tow mode will definitely come in handy, too.

I'll post some pictures of the new ride once I get some that are worth posting.

Got a report from the shop that the D's power steering is only going to be a little over $100 to fix. Some HP hose was messed up. That's good news because I'll be able to get more $$ for it now and repairs were cheap!

Glad you like your new ride
Lets see that E locker in the type of action we all know you for!

Well, I'm going to deliver GunTotinD to a new owner tomorrow about an hour away. I'm getting $3500 for it. That's a steal for what he's getting, but probably more than I'd have gotten on a trade in. I'll be sure to point him to this forum so he can continue the tradition. I'll try to stop in every now and then to say hi. You guys are good friends, and I thank you for all the help and kindness you've shared with me over the last 9 years. Lots of good memories that I'll take with me to the grave. I've made some lifelong friends here that'll outlast the SUV.

I'm sure the Titan will serve you well. 186,000 miles, that's damn good! I wonder what the current mileage record is. Any idea on how much you spent on 3 radiators, 3 trannys and 2 transfer cases?

X3. Always looking for pre-loved cool stuff. Love that Jeep BTW.

GunTotinD don't know why you'd care for the acceleration as 610 and I10 are backed up for miles 24 hours a day. :cheesy:

I understand your point (same I recently made - no more heavy investments except for mine having only 55k miles; under EXTREME conditions of course)

Good luck with the Nissan and keep in touch

Well, shoot. The deal fell thru. He didn't like the spongy shift (shift solenoid) between 3rd and 4th. I told him that the tranny is built by Martin Saine, and he didn't care. Guess I'll start emailing the others that were interested. I really hate selling cars. :(
That's a bummer, sorry to hear it. Maybe it's a sign you're supposed to keep the D!!
