recently got hit on the passenger side, didnt look too bad, but repair center says the B-Pillar between the front and rear doors has to be replaced, not repaired, replaced

couple questions:
1st one, is that even safe? thats the structure integrity and in the case (heaven forbid) another accident on that side, or worse roll over.... because of this alone, i wouldn't think this could be an option.... too much of a risk....

2nd, ok, maybe this is acceptable, and they can 120% make it better than new... that goes on a car fax, what does that do to resale/trade value?
its a 2021 with less than 15k miles.....

thoughts are wanted and welcome, maybe other things im not even thinking about atm....

You should put up a pic of the damage. Ask the insurance company this question. They won't put you back into a vehicle that isn't structurally sound. If you don't do this repair then the car will probably get a salvage title attached to it. Bending and straightening metal weakens it further so if they can get a new one and connect it top and bottom properly that is the way to do it.

Many times the manufacturer won't allow other than cosmetic repairs to pillars due to the metal used. Replacing the pillar is done all the time, the part is sold by the manufacturer, and as long as the shop follows manufacturer guidelines (sounds like they are), it will be as good as it was before. As far as loss in value, that's called diminution in value. If a reasonable buyer would pay less for your vehicle based on the knowledge that your vehicle has been involved in a loss and repaired, then DIV would apply. If the other driver was at fault, you can pursue a claim for DIV under their insurance. However, most states do not recognize 1st party DIV and it's specifically excluded by insurance policies. If you're at fault, you will likely have no recovery for any DIV, but you can check with your insurance.

This is correct. I received a DIV check for $2000 after the repairs were done and an appraisal was done by the insurance adjuster.

In reality, a properly repaired vehicles loses little in value. There are independent appraisers who will establish a DIV value for you, and prepare a report to support it, but unless you're wanting to take your insurance carrier to court, they will likely refuse to settle for more than they come up with. The only way to really know for sure how much you lost is to try and sell it immediately after it's properly repaired, otherwise, it's just subjective. And the longer you wait to sell it, the more the DIV would go down. See what the insurance company offers you first, then you can decide if you want to pursue an independent source.
