R/Ts are the greatest thing since sliced bread.

The R/T has so much more bang for the buck over the standard SLT imo. It'd cost a lot to modify a SLT to R/T stats. I also love the AWD most of the time. I might swap in a NP242 one of these days RWD, AWD, 4 High, and 4 Low.

I guess it's more than people realize. R/T seats, AWD, R/T 17" rims 275R60s, 3.92 gears, rear limited slip, tow package, running boards, 3rd row, rear air, 9.25 rear, 1" drop, wopping 5HP more(lol), front and rear sway bars, NO CHROME!, but it's all standard equipment on the R/T some of which isn't even available in the SLT+.

Plus you get the joy in driving an R/T which goes back 40+ years.

And I just like poking a little fun at the SL(u)T guys.

You never cut through a parking lot to avoid a long light, only to be foiled by a curb divider? I live in the city, concrete and curbs EVERYWHERE. I could still get up on the curb, just don't want to scratch the new pertty red bumper. Sorry, still a new concept to me. damnit, I should have lifted it.

No problems popping curbs with my D before I lowered it. 32's and a 2" lift and I never worried about going over anything. My SLT may be slow to you R/T guys, but it don't matter to me much. It sounds great and looks even better. I've been wheeling with it and dragged rocks from the woods behind my house. It tows my 27' TT with ease and comfort.

Glad you got pride. We 5.9 guys rank on the 4.7's? You know, the ones with the little motor? (J/K)

BTW, My first outing with my TJ Rubicon ended with a bent Tranny "skid" plate and a crushed oil pan. My D would have suffered less damage?

I was actually glad I found an SLT+ instead of an R/T when I bought my 2001. It has the 5.9L and 4x4, none of that stinkin' all wheel drive. Aside from the 17" wheels, my '01 is identical to an R/T.

I'd love to be able to do to my D what Jeep owners do to their rigs. However, as Dodge is the red headed step-child of the performance industry, parts or kits aren't readily available, and I can't do that kind of work in my garage any more. Cost would be prohibitive for the most part. I'd love a nice 4-link front end with coils and solid axle for some real articulation. Wish in one hand and spit in the other, see which fills up first.

Okay, okay. We're all here to have fun and be amongst D enthusiasts. We're not here to see who's got what and what his/her ride can do. As you can see, we're very passionate about our Ds, red. As I'm sure you're passionate about your Jeep. You gotta expect some ribbing and such. I'm sure you came on here to learn more about your D and what can be done to mod it or just keep it running for as long as you want. Let's just agree to disagree about certain things and be good forum mates here. :D

As for me, I DO live in the City, red. Maybe ya heard of it? New York City?LOL. And I can assure you there are many places here that have concrete, curbs and an occasional pot hole or two. But why look to put undue stress on my D by popping curbs or dividers? Maybe it's just me but I like things to go smoothly.

Hey Dwayne, I thought your rear axle broke but it was just articulation. Nice!

No 1" drop. R/T is the standart 4x4 height.
thought I read that somewhere, but now I can't find it anywhere. I do know mine sits lower than my buddies 99 2wd.
My 5.2 98 Slt will spank you royally. Even with your "whopping 5hp I still have you matched? How you ask?? DOC sticker.

Yawn. Other than the single year 2000 (which was simply a different PCM tune requiring premium 92+ fuel), R/T on the D is all marketing and has nothing to connect the D to classic R/Ts of the past. Anyone thinking their stock R/T is something special (I can point you to an entire site of Daks that do) have been successfully brainwashed by the C, LLC marketing team.

The reason that Dakota R/Ts are actually something a little special, is that you could only get a 5.9L motor and 9.25 diff in a Dakota R/T. Durangos were offered with all motor options regardless of trim levels.

That would be the only reason for me to have ever bought a Dakota R/T. Durango R/T? No way. Too much of what I don't want at an inflated premium price.

I think the 5.9 was available in non R/T Daks as well.
They may not have been common, but were surely available.
Don't know for sure though?

This is my S-L-U-T. There are many like her but this D is mine. My D is my best friend. She's my life. I must master it as I must master my life. Without me, my D is useless. Without my D I'm useless. I must drive my D true. I must drive farther than my enemy, who's trying to outdrive me. I must outmod him before he outmods me. Before God I swear this creed: my D and myself are defenders of the DOC, we're the masters of our enemy, we're the saviors of my Club. So be it, until there's no enemy, but D peace. Amen.
 That's great! I'll call you Private Joker from now on. :)

Whoop whoop! You 5.2L guys are fearless? reminds me of a Chihuahua! I love it!!

yeah you got me there. Even when I do pay up, I still won't want any stickers on my rigs.
The DOC sticker would match that red D of yours perfectly BTW.

Durango R/Ts ONLY came with 5.9Ls.

Correct. Just like the Durango, 5.9Ls could be had on Daks outside of the R/T package.
