I've seen a few threads about these two models, comparatively speaking. And since the wife has told me it is time to retire the Minivan in favor of a Durango, I'm now left pondering this in more depth than I previously have. So, a few opinions wanted from owners...

I would like the R/T, because I have testosterone and all that. But of course, I can get a Citadel with the 5.7 as well to help satiate that need for speed feeling. So aside from just on paper, what are the real pros and cons/differences of R/T and Citadel? So assume just a few things... Both will have the 5.7 and tow package.

She has also told me to sell the Night Runner, but that ain't gonna happen. Just saying that now for personal re-affirmation. I love that thing too much and have had it far too long to part with it now.

So unless I just know a lot less than I thought, basically the biggest difference would be appearance and ride quality? Ride quality would be important because it will assume the duties of the family truckster, for when we go out of town. Are either better suited to long drives with 6 passengers? Currently the minivan handles the traveling and it frankly is not very comfortable on long drives (+10 hours)

Ride quality is very subjective and personally i am comfortable to have a long distance family trips on a RT. A back to back test drive will seal your preference.
True there, and will definitely be driving them all. Doubt I will have the chance to trek a test out 5 hours each though... I have read that the long term ride comfort of both is at least comparable to each other too.

My wife had a Lexus RX350.....somewhat sporty. We needed a three row SUV. Took her to drive a Durango....knowing all along we e were getting an RT. The dealer only had a GT V6 without the SRT hood. She drove it and fell in love with it. I asked her what color and she said silver. I then proceeded to search Dodge.com for a Billet R/T with all the options we needed.
As far as the ride quality the R/T gives a stiffer ride but still very smooth especially on the highway. As for the WOW factor the R/T takes the cake. All the other moms are telling my wife her truck is bad ass ?. In the end I think you will be happy with either. Drive them both and make your decision. Good luck.
PS. My wife absolutely loves the new truck and thanks me every day. Happy wife = happy life!

Citadel ride height is 0.8" taller.
I think the V-8 exhaust is quieter than a R/T
Different interior color options.
Cosmetic differences
No skid plate availability on R/T.
Citadel comes standard with roof rails, dunno if that is still an option on R/Ts
Other than that, I think all options are available on both.

Citadel is extremely comfortable on 7+ hour road trips.
Didn't need an R/T, I already have two R/Ts, both of which are faster than any Durango

Yeah they should have some difference but comparable. Hopefully you find a dealer who can lend you the vehicles on a long test drive. Good luck on your search.

Not sure If this is still true, but option for option the RT is cheaper. Best bang for your buck!!

I like the chrome and how it looks, and I ain't 65 either... :naughty:

So we were able to drive some yesterday (although the Citadel was a 3.6, but it was OK for comparing the ride feel). They were pretty similar, at least close enough that one did not clearly defeat the other in ride comfort. If this goes forward, it will be an R/T though. I like the sportier look of it better.

We did run into a problem though. So, we have a '15 Grand Caravan. Pretty stale platform. The dealer had, of course, plenty of new Pacifica's on the lot too. She said 'is that the new version of the Caravan?' Anyway, she was highly impressed with the Pacifica platform and insisted on driving one of those too. A lot of tech and very different from the Caravan. She is now on the fence between Pacifica and Durango.

Women.

Lol, just messing. But you DO like the sportier version better which says I was right :)

The new Pacificas are nice, but I don't think much different than your Caravan. My dad just got one. For the past 6 years we have rented some form of T&C or Caravan for our yearly road trip. Great vehicles for storage and road tripping. Our kids are older and I wanted a v8 and AWD (traded a grand cherokee for our D) which you can't get in any minivan offered by FCA. The competitors offer AWD. Really depends on your wants and needs. If you want acceleration/towing/looks, get the D. If you want storage and have younger kids, and can live with FWD, the Pacific is not a bad choice. The dealer down the street from me has one on their lot. It has tint, it's lowered and has some nice looking wheels. I have to admit, that is one sexy looking van when done up right. I could do without the neons though lol.

Funny you mention the Copper one. There was one at the dealer, but not the Limited, which is required to get all the options and the big moon roof. She really likes the look but there isn't a Limited anywhere near us with the Copper. In a way, I'm glad. She would probably have jumped on it.

As for Caravan vs Pacifica, this isn't the thread for that but directly comparing the two reveals a very different and improved machine. However, it is still the Big "M" at its' heart, no matter how fancy the clothes.

I'm hoping for a black or granite R/T. If black, and even blacktop, then my gen 2 would have a black packaged twin much younger brother. How cute...
