Is there a way to keep the gate opened half way for instance. Perhaps there is some hidden hold function? Nothing in the manual. The issue is that when it is opened inside garage it can't fully open and automatically reverses.

I just tried it (because I wasn't sure myself) and if it's opening and I stop it with my hand, it either reverses, or continues to open when I let go of it. I even tried the button inside the opening, and all that will do is reverse the direction of travel. :(

There is no function like that. It's unfortunate considering so many competitors do it, I have to park in a specific spot in my garage not to hit the elbow from the door.

You should be able to just stop it from opening with your hands. However, if you do use this method: once it stops opening it will try to close once (the automatic reverse OP mentioned), try to open once more, and then stop. It won't stay in place, though; you'll have to keep a hold on it to prevent it from opening all the way.

Just tried the above and it works. Not really hold functionality but at least it does the job. There is no mention of this in the manual, at least I didn't find it, so I wonder if this is OK to do.

If you press the button on the liftgate handle a second time as its going up, it will disable the automatic open operation. No way to stop it from fully opening. I cut a few pipe insulators and used double stick tape to mount them to the inside part of the garage door where the liftgate hits to protect from scratches.
