I cannot talk about all the years but I love my 2020 RT.
There were 2 quality control issues that dealer took care immediately
1- The front bumper was not aligned to the right front fender. I noticed it after few weeks of ownership. Dealer replaced the front bumper with new one under warranty.
2- There was wind noise from the passenger side door. Turned out it was some door alignment issue and was fixed by the body shop (a simple alignment, did not require any paint or anything major).

My first maintenance was complimentary.
Second was oil/filter change and tire rotation. With tax it came to $105.

There is a video in my profile (my neighbor kid reviewed my vehicle) if you are interested.
Now I have 9k on it and so far no issues (other than reported above).

Ive had 2 Durangos and they both have been great cars. The first one was a 2017 V6 GT. We totaled it and it kept us safe. We recently got into a 2019 R/T and its a MONSTER. Very quick, luxurious, 7,200 towing capacity, spacious and visually very beautiful. Dodge is unrivaled when it comes to design, at this point they are only competing with themselves. What other 3rd row SUV can you get with Launch Control that the SRT offers?

We have had 3 so far, a 2003 4.7L V8 4x4 SLT, a 2014 RWD V6 Rallye, and our current 2018 AWD R/T. None of them have had any major problems, aside from routine maintenance and some small things that the dealer took care of on the 2 current gen models. The 2018's have had issues with Uconnect, but that was early on and software updates have taken care of that.

The 2018 is our favorite one so far, especially with winter and the AWD system in it, we throw snow tires on it and it is a tank in the snow. And for a 5000 LBS SUV it is surprising agile for it's size, and was quicker than I thought it would be when I took it for a test drive.

These things are spacious on the inside. We have 2 teenagers and 2 50 LBS dogs, and there is still room to spare in the tailgate area. The seats are comfortable for road trips, and isn't too noisy in the cabin at 70 MPH, although on windy days the rear behind the 2nd row can produce some noise.

We haven't towed anything with this one, but did with our previous 2014 with the V6. It was super nice, and only struggled a bit on high grades, but we were climbing up a mountain pass in Tennessee with around 5000 LBS so... From what I've heard about the V8 and towing that same scenario with the V6 would be a non issue for it.

If you take care of your vehicles, this SUV will suit you fine. Get the oil changed, and tires rotated at regular intervals. Just stay on top of the other stuff in the maintenance section of the manual, and it should be trouble free for years.

UE:
Welcome to DDN. Your question is a great one! I would think that being from LV, you might not pick AWD as an option, but if you ever plan to travel off road or through areas that have winter, it deserves consideration.. Also, the oem tow group is added as the D is built. Dealers will tell you they can "just slap a hitch on", and you will be good! That is 100% wrong! To get the proper rating, the D must have the tow group.

Good luck in your quest. Places like autotrader.com, cargurus.com etc are great resources. If you are willing to travel, many times you can save a big chunk of money.

I love my 2015 RT. With about 42,000 miles. Only problem is the track lighting is not sealed properly and I have some led out cause of the water. It is part of the brake assembly and is not covered under extended warranty cost to fix is $1300.00 plus 🥺 But, if you loosen the bolts or seal it right you will be fine. Love my Hemi...

Thanks everyone. I have been look, reading and watching reviews. And they seem to be good. As long as you. Are for them. But that goes with any car lol. Now I have to figure out what trim level. Don’t really need a v8 although it would be fun. And I will get the awd for the mountains and dirt roads. Anyone have experience with the v6. Power, longevity, reliability. Will also get one with the tow package from factory.

@unknown error

I traded in my v6 my v8. I had a 2014 RWD Rallye, and like all the rave with my current model, this one was no exception.

Gas milage was a lot better, for 2 reasons. The first, I went from the RWD V6 to AWD in my V8, and two I went to a V8 haha! You'll lose 1-2 mpg with AWD, RWD is a bit better on gas, I found this out with a V6 Charger I had when going from RWD to AWD on that platform as well. If I remember correctly, I lost about 4 miles or so total to the gallon in both city and highway milage coming from my Rallye to my current R/T. Not huge, but was still noticable at the pump.

As far as the power delivery, it can hold it's own. The Pentastar is a tried and true engine, and comes in at around 300 horsepower. It has no issues getting up and going from a dead stop, and has plenty of passing power at highway speeds. Paired with the 8 speed ZF transmission it is a really nice ride.

As you mentioned, get the factory tow package to avoid issues with limits. Towing with the V6 is a pretty good experience overall, so long as you know your limits and don't try and push them. The only issue I had towing was up mountain passes in Tennessee. And even then it wasn't really an issue, I just couldn't go much past 55-60 MPH up some of them with the load I was towing.

If you don't tow anything big or on a regular basis, and aren't looking for a higher performance, get the 6-cylinder. We've had 3 of them (2014, 2017 and now 2019). The first 2 were Limited/GT+ (basically the same trim, just renamed in 2017), and the 2019 is a Citadel. All had decent off the line performance (never felt slow/sluggish), and cruise nicely on the highway (we do NY-SC every year, sometimes more than one round-trip), and it's one of the most comfortable highway cruisers I've owned.

Other than the towing package, it mostly comes down to creature comforts (Navi, somewhat upgraded audio, etc.) and whether you want captain's chairs in the second row (we always opt for them).

All 3 were very reliable, though the 2019 is only at 8K miles. The changes each time have been incremental, but I do find the engines have gotten progressively smoother over the years. Most of my little gripes were technology related (the 2014 audio got boomy due to a software bug, and the 2019 on two occasions has refused to stop beeping from the backup sensors, which is a yet to be resolved bug that "Dodge is working on"). And while I never had the issue (perhaps as we keep the car in a garage), there are many whose Racetrack Light (the wide LED light strip on the rear hatch) had water infiltration, which shorted out the LEDs.

Dealer experience is FAR from stellar at either of my local dealers, so if you're not in warranty, use/find a good independent mechanic or DIY. Most of the basics work well, and have been around for a long time, so they aren't too hard for most mechanics to work on.

Thanks for the info. Will test trove the gt and rt and see which way I go lol. I was looking at the citadel but that’s way to much chrome for my taste. So it’s down to the gt or rt. There are a couple here that I can test drive and see how they are. I know the v6 has gotten better over the years. And is a strong trade and true motor. Just like the hemi. How do I tell if it’s a factory tow package or just one someone istalled?

Ask for the original window sticker, and/or just ask them for the build sheet. They should be able to get a hold of one or the other for you. For an example, my window sticker lists it as Trailer Tow Group. Worse case, look up the VIN# yourself using the link I'm providing below. At the end of the URL where it says vin= type the VIN number after it and then hit enter.

Brand new from the factory yes that is the easiest way to tell without first looking at the window sticker. However when looking at a used one no one can tell the difference, especially if they did it right. And most dealers don't bother to dig into the history nor do they know the vehicle as well as us enthusiasts.

I did exactly that on my 2014, as when I bought it new it didn't have the factory tow package. When it was all said and done it looked just like the factory install. I used OEM parts, this included the factory wiring, hitch and a paint matched bumper cover, also had a dealer program the computer for the tow package. Whomever bought it wouldn't have been able to tell the difference either unless they looked it up.

Not to detail the thread here, but don't take a dealer at face value when they say it has a feature, or it has something it can do, know what your looking at before going in.

For an example I'll use the towing package. Most dealers don't know that you can't just add the tow package on a brand new vehicle and have the maximum tow rated capacity. Adding one that didn't come from the factory limits the tow capacity to 3500 LBS regardless if you have a V6 or a V8, it is even listed in the owners manual about this. This applies even if the dealership installs it for you with OEM parts. There are several threads here detailing this fact. Dealers may know the vehicle they are selling, but more often than not don't know every detail. Unfortunately, the towing package is one that gets a lot of the members here, as the dealer will just tell them they can add that for them in the service department.

Thanks for the info I would have never know that myself. I will get a bid sheet and make sure t came with the tow package from factory before buying. I know what i want. Just trying to see if the v6 will work and make me happy. Or should i just get the rt with the v8. So many choices so little time lol.

I bought my 18 r/t about 2 months ago....i was intially looking for a 18 GT Rallye(updated front fascia + performance hood) but hard to find one around here also i wanted the bigger 8.4 uconnect screen. All these items come standard on the R/T, never driven one and only test driven the GT beforehand i bought a used R/T for cheap with tow package and blacktop package.

The hemi is great and love the power but if the GT drives great too and i would of been fine with a v6 but it's very hard to find one with all the upgrades.
