I see that I'm bringing up a dated topic, but I thought it'd be better than starting a new thread. I've got a 99 5.2 SLT+, 140,000 miles, K&N FIPK, Magnaflow dual out. Here's my delimma? I have a 25 gallon tank. Half tank=12.5 gals. Quarter tank=6.25 gals. Eigth tank=3.125 gals. I'm not insulting anyone's intelligence, just setting up my issue.
I live about 18 miles from work. 15 of those mile are interstate. I set the cruise on 58 MPH. It takes over 1/8 of a tank to get to work. Not using a lead foot and not using the A/C. Now that means that it takes about 3.5 gallons to go 18 miles. That's about FIVE MPG!! That's my issue. One question I have is; what tests can I do determine what's drinking all the fuel? Any ideas are appreciated. Thanks!

What about doing the math? The gauge could be off at times. Try this?when you go to your gas station take the number of miles traveled and divide it by the number of gallons used. This will give you an average mpg. Don't rely on the gauge only.

I used to do this when I first started driving many moons ago. It wasn't till I figured it out the right way did I learn.

OK Happy to help. My 98 with the 5.2 gets about the same as you unless I run good ol regular gas instead of the regurgetated ethenol crapola. Real gas, if you can get it in your state, puts out higher btu's thus your engine will run more efficiently. On real gas I average closer to 17. Only I have to go about 25 miles or so to get it. Ugggggggggghhhhhh :wall: :wall:
