There are several threads about water pooling inside the racetrack tail lights of 2014+ Durangos. It's clear that this is a widespread issue so I'm trying to find out exactly how widespread. Please answer this unscientific poll (1 time only) whether you've had the problem or not.

(Maybe this will help those of us who may be trying to get the light repaired/replaced under warranty.)

I polled as yes. I asked my dealer when I had mine done, he said its not super-common but it can happen. I hope my new one (they just replaced it) is water-tight. Or at least doesn't crack. I'm OK with pulling the bolts to keep it from flooding.

No water on my 2014. Have about 40,000 miles on it now. One of my license plate LEDs did crap out though... replacement part cost $35! I guess I should count my blessings though seeing that my taillights seem water tight thus far :D

I just went to the dealership with that for mine. They said those are on backorder and will call me when it comes in. They didn't look surprised at the issue and it's covered by the warranty. Sadly the very next day during a downpour, the tail light completely went out. So now all I have is the side ones, the tailgate "racetrack" is out. ☹

That is a big major safety issue, I would be on phone with Chrysler to get it repaired. Our 2018 collects water on left side only, I just unscrew the little screw inside truck and the water leaks out.

I just noticed water in the light on the tailgate. It needs to go to the dealer for an oil change, so I'll have them look at it then.

to those with water in, take the bottom 10mm bolts out, it will at least drain while you figure our your next move.

I'll also say, my new one has extra space between it, and the metal of the back panel. Perhaps cracking/failures occurred due to being over-tight against the back panel? Mine was cracked to all hell before they replaced it.

Mine has bugs in the water that I drained out. Hoping it stays alive for a while since warranty doesn't cover it. Hopefully we get enough complaints eventually they will recall them

I voted no on my 2015 but am watching it like a hawk. So far none entered after 2 touchless car washes and drive through some rain.

This is irritating. Apparently I didn't deal with mine quickly enough. Left the water in so dealer could document it while it was in for a sticker and they pointed out that part of the racetrack light is out. Wtf. At least they didn't fail my inspection as well. I just left the bottom two bolts out so the water can't pool

So my '17 Durango R/T that I got 2 weeks ago has water in the passenger side tail light. Turns out there was a crack near the upper portion of the light. Now before anyone asks....no I did not hit anything and the damage seems to be like a stress crack instead of something hitting it. There is also no body damage around the light either. The service center told me they will order a new one and have it installed free of charge when they get it in. This is the second time in 2 weeks of owning this vehicle that I had problems that came up

What was your other issue? Mines a 14 with 42k miles only issue I had was water in tail light which everyone will get and why it's so important for everyone to file the complaint. And during an update I had the garage fry my unconnect system which they replaced free.

Sorry to hear that your new 2017 has that problem only after 2 weeks. I've had mine since early November and so far no leakage after going through a harsh winter and a rainy early spring not to mention several washes.

My '15 had water fill after a storm at around 25k miles, filled about half both sides of the tail lights. Dealer replaced as warranty item, but the morons cracked and broke parts of the interior paneling when removing it, plus now water pools up inside tailgate, between the light and tailgate, then floods out on your arm as you open the tailgate. Found that out the hard way after washing it, then drying, then opening tailgate. Back to the dealer for another trip.

I originally voted "No" on the poll. Yesterday I noticed I have water / condensation in the right side of the tailgate portion.
Also noticed another LED license plate lamp out. This will be number 2 replaced of those.
Off to the dealer tomorrow. Hopefully they will order the lights I need so I don't have to leave my car twice.

Went to the dealer Monday and showed them the water in the racetrack light. They had to order the part, which also includes the license plate lights. They called me Wednesday and set an appointment to install the light on Thursday. Took about 2 hours total. Everything was done correctly, that I can see.
I suspect they have seen the issue before.
