Hey everyone I own a 2016 durango r/t and love it. No problems with it. That’s why I traded in my Toyota for a ram truck. Well I traded in my Toyota Tacoma for a 2014 ram big horn 1500 4x4. 60,000 miles on it. 5.7 hemi with 8 speed. I noticed a few days after owning it, the engine sounded whiny, almost like a super charger was under the hood. It’s much much louder under the truck than in the engine compartment. I had the truck at home a total of 4 days after signing papers and it’s been at the dealership for almost 3 weeks now. So far they have.....

Run engine without belt to isolate engine from accessories

Separated engine from trans and ran just on the flexplate without torq converter bolted on

Replaced all the roller lifters

Put in 40wt oil

So far after all this the engine is still whining. Next step they say is check oil pump and main bearing caps. I had a suspicion the noise is coming from the catalytic converters or the exhaust somewhere in that area. Do you guys have any thought on this at all? It does it in drive, park, neutral. Under load, or free rev.

Here’s a pic of the truck. I’ll try to post a video too

I thought at first it was the alternator, or another component on the belt spinning down, but you said that they disconnected the accessory belt. Has there been any aftermarket parts put on like exhaust, headers, high flow cats? Can't imagine any of those making that noise, but it could be narrowed down more if so.

I am not sure on the aftermarket cats. I did see a video on YouTube of a 2014 ram doing the same thing. The guy said there was imperfections in the cam shaft and basically they replaced everything internally and it fixed it
