Hey all,
I have a 98 D 5.2 with 60k on it and just recently noticed that when I floor it (usually going up hill) there's a lot of pinging. It just happens at WOT but only for about 10 secs before I ease up on the gas.

With my driving style and the particular route I take, this occurs about 4-5 times a week max. Is this something I should worry about and try to correct, or not a big deal?

Thanks

Thanks double M for the detailed advice. I'll try the different gas brand first and if that doesn't help, I'll grab some of that GM cleaner to try to fix the problem.

Well after finally having time to pop the air hat off, I looked down into the throttle body and saw and smelled some oily residue. Does this mean that the gasket has failed?

I know Hughes make a replacement gasket but is that my only option to replace it?

How much time do I have to replace it before a catastrophic ($$$) break down occurs?

Regarding the leaky plenum gasket?if I replace it with an M1, won't I lose low end torque? If that's a possibility, I'd feel more comfortable going with the aluminum plenum cover kit.

I guess the bottom line is?it's better to be safe and fix the problem sooner rather than later!
