I Use something almost exactly the same as this... different brand but same exact look and function... The only problem with th design though is that the weight of the phone will cuz this to sag on the vents thus causing the vents to point down more than up, if you move to the side so the vent isn't blocked then you block part of your UConnect screen and when backing up with the backup camera you can miss things not to mention when you wanna change the radio or etc your phone is blocking the screen where the buttons are to push so you have to move out of the way, ive found a happy medium between the vent and the screen. Ill try and post when I can.

I've got the ProClip USA mount that goes over the right driver's vent but doesn't attach to the vent guides.
Here's a not so great picture:

You have to by the base than the adapter you prefer. I can take more photos if want more details.

I second the ProClip, works really well right there next to the steering wheel. The install is quick and easy, and keeps the phone super secure.

I just got back from a camping trip, and realized that it also makes a great selfie location for getting the family/dogs in a picture. The mount swivels, at least the one I got, and takes great pictures this way.

Edit: I have a heavy Note 8, and I have no problems with the weight of the phone. It also stays out of the way of the Uconnect screen, so long as it is in an up and down fashion. If it is rotated sideways, it will be in the way of the screen some. I always have it sitting up and down, or like a portrait postion, so I have no problems seeing the navigation and backup camera when I need to.

Does the ProClip get in the way of the A/C vent and block air going to the driver?

It does cover the vent, but allows some air around it, because it isn't right on the vent slates. But yes, it is noticeably less on that vent.

I'm not a fan of the vent-clip mounts so I went with a stick-on mount and love it. Here's a link to Amazon, but I bought mine at a local Walmart:
https://www.amazon.com/SCOSCHE-MAGDM-MagicMount-Universal-Magnetic/dp/B00I3E17RA/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?ie=UTF8&qid=1530883385&sr=8-1-spons&keywords=scosche+magic+mount&psc=1

I put the metal plate just under the camera so the phone covers only half of the vent which works out well to avoid battery overheating during long trips running GPS and Bluetooth music for the kids. The only real problem is that I don't have a push button ignition so I have to remove it to put keys in/take keys out of the ignition.

(FYI, this is a 2011 DD)

I had one on the vent fins but it didn't stay in place for crap, plus it always looked like it was about to bust a fin loose. This one will mount on top of the dash with a sticky suction cup that has not come loose yet and I have had it in the direct sunlight on 95+ degree days. You place the sticky suction cup where you want it then you twist the base of the mount and it clamps the cup down. So far so good. The clamp is motorized and grasps your phone when you put it in the base and a simple touch to the side of the cradle opens the clamps. It has a fast charger as well, the benefit to the clamp vs the magnetic ones is you do not have to put a metal plate on your phone case which interferes if you use a charging pad on your phone such as your nightstand as I do.

I use the same mount

I use this mount. Arm is perfect length to reach from windshield to the edge of the dash. Allows me to avoid sticking anything to the dash.

I have a 2013 DD Crew and I use the same mount. I find it to be very successful and it holds my iPhone 6S+ with its Otterbox cover well. I only apply it when I have to use Maps. I use Bluetooth U-Connect for calls. BTW, Otterbox covers are too thick for magnets to grasp the steel plate. So, this flex mount is a great solution.
