Guys, I'm wracking my brain trying to figure a good time/location in Europe to meet up.

There'll be challenges for all - Oslo getting his D here, Anton's long drive.

I'm thinking about Berlin because it's almost a straight shot from Moscow on E30 (though you'll have to cross Belarus and Poland.)

Some of the former eastern block countries would be more central such as Poland/Czech but I'm not willing to drive my D there based on the rate of American car theft/vandalism

Any ideas?

Oslo D - I'm thinking about a quick trip to Norway with my wife in October. My Grandmother is Norwegian (maiden name Viken!) and I'd like to go see where my ancestry is from. Maybe we can meet for dinner or something while there? I haven't set any dates for travel yet.

Hi Kevin!
As you remember I raised the theme about european D meetin several times. :wall: We have to settle 3 main questions if we want to meet:

1. Number of people.
2. the most convenient date for everybody.
3. Place of meeting.

I can come and take 1 more D from our club. But it's ok if at least 4 cars meet.

Place. For me it isn't main question. I'll go to S-Petersburg, then to Finland and take ferry to Germany. If I'm not mistaken there's ferry from S-Petersburg to Germany. In this case I'll take it.
I won't go through Belorussia and Poland. It's too far, 3 customs, bribes, polish gangsters.
We have to settle the date in the nearest time, because I'll have to get Shengen visa. I guess we can meet in October.

Besides there'll be beer festival in Germany? When will it be?

Anton - I didn't think about the Ferry system - good idea. If you go to Helsinki, there's probably a couple of destinations to Germany.

Can you research what your Visa requirements will be? It's probably easier for those of us in the EU countries to be flexible.

Hamburg would be an ideal setting, large enough city to find some accomodations and interesting gathering place.

Oktoberfest runs mostly in September, however, good German beer is always easy to find.

As macfights said - no herb for us :naughty:

Hi Kevin!

Let it be Hamburg. In the beginning of October. It'll be fine for me.
Shengen won't be too difficult to open so I'll work on it in September.

We have to settle the number of participants. I don't catch who'll come.
:?:
P.S. Herb is sucks. :) It's better russian vodka and non-filtered Paulaner. :cheesy:

Mac - sure thing.

I got family coming in October 5th so I'll probably look at the end of September? :? Is 26 Sept a training holiday for you? Maybe I'll take a pass that first weekend in October. :bugeyed:

Autobahn 7 is almost a straight shot for me once I get off A5 or 3. A few Aral/Esso stations on the way so we should be able to refuel with fuel coupons.

Kevin,
I just saw this posting, I just came back from 4 weeks in Croatia, so I have used all my vacationtime for now re. meeting in Europe (I went by air, 2000 km one way was too long, for me, but not for the D I guess)?

But I can tour you around Oslo if you come, just say when!

I found 2779 Viken in the phone book, but you can limit the search to the East, West, Mid, North and South parts in the left column here: Telefon Katalogen

OK, stop it! I'm almost ready to get on a flight and get back over there. Octoberfest!! Man I miss Europe.

You better take that D skiing - wish I had that option but mine is towing boats at the moment here in FL.

Course I REALLY want to get my C5 over there, these 45 MPH limits are killing me.

Enjoy the Europe D'ing. We probably are about to beat your 1.50 Euros/litre over here.

I have heard Croatia is a nice vacation area, were you around Split? The Black Sea area of Bulgaria and Romania are really beautiful as well.

2779 Vikens, I'll have to ask my Grandmother what part of the country her family is from.

Will be in Norway 8-11 October, fly in the 8th and overnight in Oslo, then 9th to Voss, 10th in Burgen (I think) and then train back to Oslo for a flight home. Quick tour, I can't wait?this is one of the places I have really been wanting to see.

Right, we were just north of Split in the Zadar area, on an island in the Kornati archipelago. My wife has a house there after her father.

Your round trip is a good choice, seems like you selected this trip:

When you get to Voss, here are some suggestions of what you can do (like Jackass - norwegian style):

I checked some of them, in BASE - I think I saw a glimpse of Batman, in N. Chronicle - there's a car-wash scene you must skip since you don't come by car?

Hope you enjoy it. Let me know your details, and we can plan something.

Norway in a Nutshell! - because we only had a few days, the travel books suggested this as a good way to see some of the sights.

I'll talk to my wife about our Oslo plans (we really haven't figured out what we want to do while we're in Oslo.) We have a couple of hours after we arrive back in town on the 11th before we have to head to the airport. Same on the 8th, we'll have a couple of hours to fill though we're staying in town that night. I'll let you know something soon.
