You'll hear us talking about "order status" in the threads where people are getting excited about their newly-ordered D.. The order status codes give the state of the vehicle inside FCAs system, and can be gotten from Customer Service, your dealer, or places like jeepgarage if you have a certain membership level.
Here's my rough translation of the status codes, which also gives some idea of the path from your dealer clicking the 'order' button to handing you the keys:
B - Order preprocessing. Order has not yet been accepted. Many subcodes.
C - Tentative Schedule. This is when the assembly plant becomes aware of the order
D - Schedule (Firm order). VIN assigned. Plant ordering materials. Dealer has allocation available.
D1 - Gateline Schedule. Plant has firm delivery schedule for all parts, the vehicle build time is known to within 2 days. Estimated delivery date usually assigned here.
E - Frame. The body shop is welding up the sheetmetal
F - Paint.
G - Trim. This is really 'final assembly', the part where the vehicle is running down the 'assembly line'.
I - Inspection.
J - Build OK'd. Several subcodes are possible here, including
JS - Storage. Vehicle is on hold. Could be due to an issue found in I, issues found with a part from the same batch than went into your vehicle, etc.
KZ - Plant Release. Dealer is invoiced for the vehicle. Vehicle enters the shipping pipeline. Some of the interesting subcodes:
KZL - Released, not shipped. getting staged and scheduled onto a railcar
KZO - Delayed/received. Something went wrong.
KZM - First rail departure. It's on a train!
KZX - Delivered. It's at the dealer.
