Yesterday I noticed a puddle of fluid under the Durango. Today on the way to work the heat would only below freezing cold air. Do these newer model Durango's have a heating element or heater core like older cars did?

They have heater coils that should be full (no air) of coolant. Check your coolant levels in both the radiator and overflow tank. Refill as needed. ID and fix any leaks.

Definitely check the radiator and coolant levels. I recently had a leak from a seal behind the firewall so I couldn't see where it was leaking from. Fill it up for sure if low, then take it in to get a pressure test to check for leaks.
