Timing advances and fuel curves as well as some other goodies I believe the top speed limiter is altered as well

But does that all hinge on premium or asked another way, what gains can you get from it using regular at 3.08? :?

greg

You can't run regular with the timing curves that are programmed into it there'll be too much Pinging / preignition.
With all programs when you advance the timing you need a fuel with a higher flash point and also cooler plugs

Basically the same as the programmers then. Thanx. Was contemplating that, but given regular is here at 3.08 thanx to our corrupt state legislature who insist on blaming the oil companies but fail to realize that they already are responsible for taxing us to the max, our respected and senile senators who insist on keeping the 1812 Jones Act (since they were probably the orginal signers) which adds another 7 grand a year to every household and lastly the 11 cent a gallon rebate we were supposed to get due to the ethanol mix which causes us to refuel more but decided they were "too busy" to renew?I'm going to try and convince one of my dogs to run for office here, he/she couldn't do a worse job than these clowns.

They'd probably do a better Job than most of the Politicians out there

Sounds like So Cal has taken the lead in high fuel cost, I'm not finding a station around with less than 3.27/ gal. Regular, 3.47 prem. :wall:

Well they're saying $4 a gallon by Mid Summer here in the NORTHEAST

Actually, I could run regular with mine. I never had a pinging issue to begin with, so that may be some difference. The first thing that I noticed after a little more power was that the cruise control had no speed limiter in it. The stock PCM limits you to about 85 mph in cruise. The performance PCM doesn't have that limit. There's still a "soft spot" with the performance PCM and the m-1/TB combo. If you want smooth pick up over the entire throttle range go with the B&G flash.

Let me try and understand this then. What's the difference between an OEM PCM reprogrammed or the Mopar PCM? Does the Mopar one come with a programmer?

greg

VS

The Mopar Performance version was milder. The B&G advances the timing to a greater extent. I swear I could do better with a carb and a MSD Distributor/ vacuum advance.

rant off now.

MORE POWER! AND THE OPTION OF ONLY USING PREMIUM FUEL! :cheesy:
They do work quite well though

you're wrong, Pres? I used 87 in mine until I put the Flashed PCM in and the M1.

When I added my MPPCM, I had the stock intake manifold. the performance gain was pretty nice. WOT shift went from 4600 RPM to 5500 RPM. I don't know what the top speed is because I never hit it. I have been about 110 in it but that was after the M1 install. In my opinion, it really woke up the motor. I have my MPPCM one since I flashed my stock one. If someone wants to try it out, let me know. pay for shipping and I'll send it out. I had an issue with it not shifting at WOT twice. maybe it wasn't the PCM, but I didn't want to take a chance so I put the flashed one back in. I had it in for a while to run 87 to save some cash back when regular was $3.50? looks like it's going there again.

anyway, let me know if I can help.

Skitzo, the Prez is never wrong and even if he's wrong he ain't got it? That's why he's the Prez, like all Prezes?

Hmm The paperwork and te stuff I saw Clearly stated that you're required to run Premium Fuel in Ride after installing this PERF PCM.
I can be wrong but I believe that's what it says
You may have run regular Dwayne but you may also have gotten Lucky on the pinging issue as well.
I'd still recommend the Flash Thru Fastman over the Mopar anytime

920=The cluster isn't receiving a vehicle speed message from the PCM
1. Check the PCM software level and reflash if required
2. Use a DRB scan tool to verify that the vehicle speed message is being sent by the PCM
921=The cluster isn't receiving a distance pulse message from the PCM
1. Check the PCM software level and reflash if required
2. Use a DRB scan tool to verify that the distance pulse message is being sent by the PCM
999=An error has been discovered (my pesonal favorite)
1. Record the failure message
2. Depress the trip odometer reset button to continue the self-diagnostic test.

From the 1999 Durango FSM

Been there, done that, got a new PCM

Good luck,
Dave

Dave you had definitely went thru everything before replacing that PCM. That's why from the beginning I said they needed a new PCM.
We all learned from you on this one

Yes the Mopar computer instructions recommend preminum but what's actually required depends on how you engine runs. With any engine you want to run the minimum octane without pinging. Most people with the Mopar PCM don't have to use premimum. I have no pinging with plus. I have found hit or miss with regular so I use plus all the time.
