Now here's a sweet looking D doing service in Colorado, my friend Bob sent me this picture. The only thing I don't like is they "cheaped out" and didn't get the driving lights. I'd have either gotten the driving lights or replaced them with strobes but to leave the plain jane bumper?YUK!

Looks good. We have an existing thread about Durango Law Enforcement pictures.

The lack of running boards and wheel flares is fine by me. Why tear them off while rough driving after a perp and over a curb, etc. plus that saved the taxpayers who actually paid for the D some money. Looks are great, but so is functionality.

I'd love to know if there are Police Interceptor upgrades for the D like the engine, fuel capacity, braking, etc. that's common on Crown Vics and others used for law enforcement. It makes me proud to think the stock D is good enough for the task however, if they have mods like that I could take advantage of, I'd be interested.

Well I can kinda help answer that one because my former police dept was an all Dodge fleet. The Durango's don't have a specific "police package" like the new Charger and Magnum do, but they do have specifics about them. All that were ordered with special service in mind have the 5.9L with FT4WD and 3.92 gears. They didn't have a package designation like SLT or Sport and they don't have fender flares or running boards. Our 01's had 16" wheels, cloth front interior with a vinyl rear seat, standard radio with no tape or CD player and they came without the center console. As far as better brakes and such that are often seen in police packages, I don't think there's anything special. So basically they were tough enough as is.

Having one as a patrol vehicle is the exact reason I drive one everyday. Our Chief and two Lt's still have 01's, but we just replaced the ones on patrol with 04's with the 5.7L engine. All the Crown Vics were also just replaced with Chargers with the 5.7 and that's the most awesome patrol vehicle ever! We had intrepids for about a year and they were the biggest pieces of crap I've ever driven and were very unsafe! But the Durango's are awesome patrol vehicles and the Charger's seem to be doing well too.
