Good day all. I'd like to thank you for the warm welcome. I stumbled across this site last week while looking for info for our D. It took me awhile to figure out the forum's ins and outs, in fact, it was only today I figured out I could register and post. Well that's me and puters. So we joined the DOC. Now for the book.
Anyways, I've had a Mopar since Dad gave me the family car when I was 16, it was a 1961 Dodge Seneca station wagon, 318 and a push button TorqueFlite. No power steering, what a beast.
Many Mopars inbetween that and my current, 99 Durango SLT 5.9 4x4. My first D was a the shop truck in June of 1999, a 99 5.9 4x4, red with wailen siren, tricksonic light bar, and a warn winch. Yea, the first time I had it going to a fire at 80-90 MPH on the back roads with a few hundred pounds of gear in the back, I knew I was gonna get one to pull the boat. The Dept. wouldn't let me use theirs, go figure. In July I sold my 79 Plymouth Trailduster Sport 4x4 and leased a 99 SLT Platinum 4x4, then bought it three years later.
After reading these posts for the past few weeks, I'm a bit embarressed to say until last saturday, it was all stock and original, except for the tires which I replaced at 56k, and the K&N air filter. Over this last weekend, with 69.5k on the odometer, I put on the fist set of shocks and changed out the front upper BJs. I went with the Monroe Senstracts and Napa BJs, they have grease fittings.
I also did a coplete service on it, changed all the fluids, changed the cap, rotor, wires, plugs, serviced the trans. I have been following the 3k service intervals.
So, now, the rest of the post?I got the ATF from the dealer as I did last time I did the major service, now I see it's ATF+4, vice the three. It took two full gallons after the filter change. The parts guy said I can no longer add the plus 3 ATF, always the plus 4. I have read that some people suggest to stay away from the flush, but what about the plus 3 still in the torque converter. Should I do a complete flush to make it all plus 4? The dealer socked me with $30 a gallon for the stuff, so I'm not real anxious to do that. But we're leaving for a 2k mile road trip from the SF bay area to Seattle next Saturday and I don't want any problems, like the dead battery I had yesterday morning. (got a new one.)
Ok, so I'm done. Sorry for the book, won't happen again, I promise. Thanks again for the warm welcome. I'm looking for pictures to post.
