here's the new speaker box to go in my '96 Ram. since there's some loud mouth youngins flapping their gums on a few stereo forums about how I don't compete as much anymore, I gotta come out again and show 'em how a world champ gets it done! where the speaker mounts, it's triple faced for strength? the speakers will weigh 70+ lbs each!

thanks guys. I'll get at least a 155 out of her before it's all said and done!

thanks Mike! I won my class with 153.1 decibels. it was a little humid out and amps don't like humidity, so my score was down a bit.

have a show this Sunday. I blew the seal out of the back window during testing today!

thanks! once it's all dialed in, I'm looking for 157-158 decibels to be able to compete with the loudest no wall class vehicles in the world. 154 is really loud, but not loud enough to be competitive in most cases.

thanks old school! with no tuning, 154.7 decibels? so far.

Thanks Tom! only bad thing is it's a street scene mirror! lol that's the price you pay when playing with 20k watts!

small update. went to a show and cracked the glass in my driver side rear view mirror in 3 places! lol it gets real loud and it's not fully tuned yet. still gotta find peak in-car frequency, box rise, etc., but I'll get it dialed in. :D

thanks guys!

Steve, the loudest man-made sound that I know of and have heard in person is an extreme truck in the car audio world. he's up to 181.3 decibels and, at that level, if someone were allowed to sit inside his truck, it'd kill them from the vibrations being so violent, it'd jar organs into submission permanently. people think it's easy to make stereos this loud, but it's really not. it's just a lot of trial and error, different box designs, etc. a general rule of car audio is, you have to double your power to gain 2 decibels up to the point where you get up in the high 150's. After that, it goes down to tenths of decibels.

hey Mike, people say I cause earthquakes as well! lol when I had the big stereo in the Kameleon D, I dropped a buddy of mine off at his house and he wanted me to turn it up so his wife could hear it. he lives on the 3rd floor in the rear and, since I didn't wanna piss of the neighbors, I only hit it for a couple of seconds and I still knocked knickknacks off his shelf.

for anyone here, I don't condone driving around blaring your music. my stereos are competition grade and, if I did that, I'd be deaf? and it's just disrespectful to others. So I drive around with only the door speakers on.

thanks for the words guys. :D

thanks John! lol I'll get at least a 156 decibel certified reading out of all this. lots of tweaking and tuning to do once all the stereo gear is in. to get an idea how loud 156 decibels is?
  • a thunderclap or air raid siren 3 feet away= 130 db
    a jet engine=140 db
    a rocket launching=180 db
this is why I can sit in it! lol

here's my custom buss bars for the batteries in the bed I traded for some unused equipment I had. the guy that made these is the same guy that made my battery terminals. 256 holes between the 4 bars to link the batteries together and with the runs of 1/0 gauge welding cable from the front.

UPDATE

a friend of mine has space in his heated garage so I can work on it over the winter, yay! all I have left to do is put it on the lift and pull the 8 runs of 1/0 gauge welding cable down the frame and into the bed. then it'll be ready to cause some tremors! I'd like to have it ready for the first big show off 2011: a triple point show at Spring Break Nationals. people from 15+ states and all the way down from Canada that come to compete.

it's supposed to be 35 degrees here tomorrow, so I'm gonna see if I can get the last of the wire run and fire it up before she goes into storage. I'd like to get a base number so I can come up with some tweaks over the winter to get it louder.

subs are mounted (I'll have pics up in a bit.) what a PITA trying to hold an 85 lb sub-woofer on it's side with one hand while trying to screw it in with the other hand without it shifting around! what an unexpected workout that was! side note: the battery rack in the above pic is centered on the speaker box; it just doesn't look like it from the angle I shot the pic at.

after figuring in box rise, voltage drop, etc., we're looking in the neighborhood of 154-156 decibels at around 48-50 hertz. I might be able to squeeze out a few more tenths; which might be the difference between losing and winning. anything over 150 decibels has to be gained in increments unless you tear out and rebuild, there's no gaining 2 or 3 dB's at a time when you're getting this loud.

the loudest vehicle in the world is an 2002 F-250 crew cab pushing 183.x decibels! :bugeyed: with all the concrete, subwoofers, batteries, amplifiers, etc., even the Powerstroke diesel has a tough time moving it on and off the low boy trailer (it weighs in at almost 20k lbs!)
  • 9 15 inch Pioneer competition sub-woofers
    36 Pioneer amplifiers
    72 turbostart 16 volt batteries
all this produces 113,200 watts of power and he's running 4 amplifiers on each sub-woofer; each running it's own voice coil. WOW!
