Being a volunteer firefighter and also a police officer the D sometimes gets used for various things. So I decided to put a mobile radio in it since my handheld has some issues getting out in places here in the mountains. The only thing is I'm not sure how to mount the thing. So I need ideas on where to mount it and pictures of similar things such as CB's would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

UHF Radio

Why not just mount an external antenna that you can attach to your ht?

There's a nice clip from Antenna Specialists that'll allow the antenna to be mounted using the fender bolt closest to the windshield and not drill any holes in the body. Just mount and trim the stick and it'd be good to go. I run a co-phase rig for my cb that way and have had no problems with it for over 4 years of very hard use. Doesn't chip the paint or anything.

The antenna is already mounted I'm just wondering about mounting the radio in the car.

Handhelds with external antennas can be a pain to handle while driving? I've never been a fan of that (though that's what I do today because I haven't gotten around to mounting my rig in the D?)

If the radio you plan to use has a separate control head, there are lots of options (I made up an under-dash mount for two heads on my '99)? if it's a one-piece rig, then your options are more limited.

On my 99, I mounted my CB with an existing screw for the bottom center panel under the dash, above where the little storage tray is. That panel is held in with two screws. I used one to hold my CB and the other to hold the clip for my mic. It works great! They hold rock steady and it's all out of my way.

If you want, I can take pictures this evening when I get home from work to give you an idea of what it looks like.

Update:
As promised, here's a picture of my CB mounted in the D. I hope this can be of some help. It's not the slickest mount, but it works pretty easily and required no extra holes drilled in the D :)

Thanks for the help. I never thought about the screws that were already under there. They actually worked out great since two of them lined up with some of the holes on the bracket.

Cool! Glad I could help!
