Need a part for my 99 D

I took my 99 D to a dealership to have the window regulator on the right rear door replaced. The weather up here's cold and the dealer managed to shatter the upper trim molding when removing the door panel. :x
My problem is that the part - 5FP38DX9AD - has been discontinued by Dodge. The dealer has searched both the US and Canadian dealers for the part without success. I have searched all of the auto wreakers in Calgary, and most in Alberta, without success.
Can anyone in the DOC help me with my problem?
Thanks

Black Magic: If you go to the following site www.trademotion.com/ your trim is listed at a cost of $15.80 US. It's called Bob Caldwell OEM Mopar Parts or (Moparmaster.com) I hope this works out for you. Let me know how you do make out.

Canuck D
Perfect! Thanks Canuck D. I knew I could count on DOC members for help. When I ordered on line the website indicates that they don't ship to Canada, but that can be overcome. I'll have to wait for the morning to talk to them directly. Again, many thanks.

Won't that same trim piece be found on any generation 1 D? They're all pretty much the same.
Nope - the part fits only 1998-99 D's. The rest of Gen 1 D's are slightly different - just enough that they won't fit. Thanks for the idea anyway.

FWIW - I also found it on http://www.dodgeparts.com for approx. the same price. BUT, they also say that they no longer ship outside of USA. However, if you live in western Canada, (Vancouver), dodgeparts.com is actually a dealer parts department just south of Seattle, and it might be worth a drive down to pick it up? :?: They'll honor their online prices if you create an account, order the part and arrange to pick it up.

If Dodgeparts.com has it then it's a Dealer Item and not discontinued unless it's old stock.
I think the dealer should go get it

To rapidrob, jamc2000dge, FSTDANGO3, tomk.
Thanks for all your help, but I've had no success so far.
The part was discontinued in August 2005, and a search by several dealers in both the US and Canada turn up nothing - it's not in dealer stock anywhere.
dodgeparts.com is a dealer so no help there. I tried partsvoice.com and arizonaparts.com (a huge Chrysler parts place), but nothing there. car-part.com doesn't have it either, BUT they at least had an option where they can forward my request on a "recycle network" and anyone with the part can contact me. I hope that works.

It's clear that my only chance to get the part is from a wreaker, but the problem is finding a wreaker who has a 1998-99 black right rear door to obtain the trim molding. First problem is that the part is so specific, and I'm finding the second problem is that there's no national network in either country that ties all the wreakers together for a search. Car-parts.com is the closest, where they pass on my request.

Again, many thanks for all who took the time to offer suggestions.

I don't understand? none of the online Dodge parts places say anything about the part being unavailable? this, for example, from Dodge-auto-parts-dealer.com? who'll ship internationally?

Well

What happens if you click buy it now?
If it orders it than maybe we need to get it and send it to him

Hmmm - does sound strange. Here's the actual ordering page at dodgeparts.com.
https://www.dodgeparts.com/oe_parts_catalog.html?osCsid=1cdea9401c5daa9917a0f8508960f77c

You might try and put it in your basket as if to order, and see if it gives an, 'out of stock', or, 'discontinued', message.

Edit: Sorry - I guess it won't let you go to the actual item ordering page. Just enter the part number on the page that does come up and it'll go right to it.

Any Gen 1 '00-'03 trim could be universally/entirely swapped out, even of one part is different on '98-'99s. The doors themselves are exchangeable, so the trim absolutely has to be. Make them change over the entire trim and it should be fine.

Again, it's their problem now? and you should have a loaner vehicle now while they work all this out.

to tomk: I know it seems strange to have the part listed, but unavailable. The answer is that Dodge-auto-parts-dealer.com is a wholesale outlet on the web for Allen Samuels Chrysler of Houton, TX. When I contacted them directly, they say that the stuff on their website is a complete catalogue of Durango parts, NOT what they have in stock. They don't have the part, and my statement of "no dealer in the US or Canada has the part" is still correct.

to FSTDANGO3: I don't know about using a US address and whether that would cause a "discontinued" notice or not. I got a pop-up box that said they don't ship to Canada, and my order didn't go through.

to rapidrob: (same as answer to tomk) I phoned them (BBC Dodge in Seattle) 'cause it wouldn't be a problem to get a friend in Vancouver to pick it up. However, they too confirm that no dealer in US or Canada has the part - including them.

to IndyDurango: The doors may be interchangable, but the mounting points of the trim molding are different so that parts of the door aren't interchangeable. The part number I gave is specific to 1998-99 D's only (and there are 2 superseding numbers for this part).

Thanks guys, but I guess I'm down to asking:
"Has anyone seen a black 99 D in a wreaker yard on their travels? If so, what wreaker and where's it?"
Keep your eyes out for a 99 D damaged on the left side only - I need the part from the right side.

I really appreciate the effort you have spent on my behalf, and I did try your suggestions but it just isn't working for me. Perserverance will pay off in the end, I hope.

I doubt this is gonna help but FWIW?

Have you done a car-part.com search for the complete door? I just did one searching bone yards in Canada and came up with a few possibilities.

Here's one?

1999
Rear Door
Dodge Durango 4DRSLT,PWTPL, BLK W FLARE 000 A
0 I50174 $442.48
--Can--
$500
actual Autoland of Delhi LTD Can-ON(Simcoe) E-mail 1-519-582-2840

and another?

1999
Rear Door
Dodge Durango POWER BLACK SMLL DNTS 000 A
0 NA0103 $398.23
--Can--
$450
actual Bastarache's Auto Salvage Can-NB(Shediac-River) E-mail 1-506-532-6621

I assume it'd come with the interior trim. Kinda expensive for trim parts but if the dealer broke it, the dealer should pay up. Probably would be able to take the trim and resell the door or claim it on his insurance.

Hope this helps.

That's a way I hadn't thought about. If push comes to shove with the dealer, I'll certainly keep that in mind.

Thanks, prisoner6

I'm still saying a complete redo of the moulding from any Gen1 could/would work, regardless of a mounting hole here or a mounting hole there. Someone would have to prove to me otherwise since the doors are the same. I'll be comparing my Plat '00 with Skitzo's Plat '99 in Tenn for sure to see for myself.

They fracked it up, make them figure it out. I'd.

IndyDurango, let me know what you find out. I'm going by what several dealers have told me that the part isn't interchangeable between 98-99 and 00-03.

You're quite correct in that they broke it, they fix it. I'm not letting them off the hook, but the more informed I am, the better I can make my points. Let me know what you find in the comparison.

Thanks a lot.

Hi Black Magic;

What happened with the Caldwell site? :? No stock as well? I'll give some of the dealers and wreckers out here a call tomorrow and see what I can dig up for you. I know the part is discontinued but a dealer might know of a place to find one. No promises but I'll try. As a last ditch suggestion have you tried phoning any of your area body shops? They frequently save trim and such from jobs and I have had some luck over the years with other vehicles. On the other hand FSTDANGO3 (Steve) had some custom leather work  (see his post and pics) done for his doors at a reasonable price. You might talk to the dealer about covering some or all of the cost for this. :D

Hi Canuck D
Sorry I was remiss in not answering your post with a further update. Yes, the Caldwell site is a Dodge dealer and had no stock. It's a waste of time to contact dealers 'cause they just don't have it. But if you could find some time to shop wreakers in your area, I'd very much appreciate it. I've searched all the wreakers I could find in Alberta and a couple of them are searching their networks.
It's such a rarely-broken piece (other than in a major smuck-up) that I have to give prisoner6's suggestion a try.

To jamc2000dge
Yes, prisoner6 came up with 2 good locations for me to try, and maybe they'll sell me just the piece I need - doubt it 'tho. I have their phone numbers and will be on to them in the morning. Other than these 2 possibilities, I need whatever help I can get.

It's sort of like an assassination - just get lucky once and it's done.
Thanks guys
