Leaking oil pan

Hey D lovers,

Last week I starting noticing small drops of oil in the garage......took the D in. It wasn't the oil filter, and it wasn't the plug. It's the oil pan gasket. Parts will be here Monday, but I guess the entire front end will have to be disassembled.

The thing that gets me is that the dealership says that the oil that is put in at the factory is not special in any way.

I don't mind the repair......I guess it happens but, I thought that the original oil at the factory was a special blend. 620 miles, about the same as my last Honda for seeing the dealership...

Thoughts.....

Yeah, composite is what I meant.....sorry.

So as some of you may know, I traded in my 2016 Honda Pilot mainly because of the stereo. Honda has been getting complaints about the stereo since Aug/Sept of last year. 9 months later, Honda has yet to address this issue. I wonder how long it will take Dodge to address this issue?

thoughts......

The service writer was not aware of this problem when I dropped off my car, but he called back later after investigating and agreed that it is a known problem. The new oil pan is on order.
He said it was not an actual TSB, but some other information source from Dodge and their dealers. I will try to get more information when I pick up my car early next week.

While I'm waiting for my R/T, they gave me a brand new Subaru Crosstrek as a loaner (they are also Subaru dealer). The Subaru is not a bad car, except for the annoying CVT transmission.

Here is a copy of my service order for the oil pan replacement showing the new oil pan part number. My service manager says there is not an actual service bulletin yet for this issue. However, this is a know problem with a Star case as noted on the service order. He says the Star case recommended replacing the oil pan with the latest part number.

If you have a leak call FCA and see if they will give you fee oil changes... How are you liking your RT?

I am on travel for work and I have rented a grand caravan RT. Holy Hannah, huge difference in quality from my Durango. Almost like they were made by two different companies.

Interesting read here ....

Has anyone with a RWD '16 R/T had the leak? I just slid under mine and it's dry. Composite pan with no yellow mark. We have a couple thousand miles on it so far, and no leaking. We ordered back in Nov, and it has a build date of Jan 2016.

As noted earlier, I had my oil pan replaced a couple of weeks ago to fix an oil leak at the back of the pan. A couple of days ago I noticed a new oil spot on my garage floor. I got under my car expecting to see the oil pan leaking again, but it was dry. This time the oil looked like it was coming from the front differential and it smelled like axle fluid.

I took it back to the dealer and they changed both front axle seals. They claim this was not related to the original oil pan replacement because the front differential was never removed. I don't believe them. As far as I can tell, it is impossible to remove the oil pan without first removing the front differential. They just don't want to admit that they screwed it up. Now I just hope they didn't screw something else up while changing the axle seals.

FCA engineering would have done well to check in with GM and ask about their composite timing chain cover leakage on the 4.3L V6. Talk about hard to seal! And this was 16 years ago! sheeesh!

I'm guessing an outsourcing or vendor switch gone wrong.

A quick parts search on Mopar sites indicate that pan is for 2016 thru 2018 Durango 5.7s.
