Jack Stand Location Problem Solved

The service manual says the only approved lift points are the front pinch welds and square protrusions near the front of the rear wheels, see attached pic. The problem is using a floor jack to lift at these points leaves no room to place a jack stand at the same point. I never trust the seals on a jack while I'm working on a car so I always use jack stands. I like to change my own brakes, rotate wheels and other minor stuff so I need to get at least 2 wheels off the ground at once using jack stands.

After a lot of searching the only solution I could find is the Powerbuilt Unijack. It's a combined bottle jack and jack stand. They make 2 models, a 3 ton with a minimum height of 11" and a 2 ton with a min 8" height. I choose to get two of the 2 ton models so I could lift my other cars which sit lower to the ground than 11". Reading all the reviews for it seem really positive but there are some that say the seals blew on theirs but some claim the manufacture has since fixed this issue. I don't have them yet but will pick them up soon and probably some pinch weld adapters.

The best price I could find was $32 from TrackerSupply but they only have the 3 ton model. Amazon has them but for like $20 more which was the best price I see for the 2 ton model.

Using jack stands to support the vehicle, after you jack it up on the frame rails with a floor jack, should not be an issue to put a stand under the wishbones on the suspension in a beefy spot where it is bolted to something else. You just can not try to jack up the vehicle from there. The wishbones support the weight of the vehicle when it is on the ground and in motion. There is also room along the frame rails to place a jack stand there if you chose to do that.

I see in the jack location description it states not the jack it up from here, suspension components that is. I have been doing this for years with previous vehicles and it has never been an issue to support the vehicle with jack stands from these locations. I never would try and jack it up from there just support the vehicle after it is already lifted and gently lower the vehicle onto the stands.

Just my 2 cents.

Have you actually tried the 2-ton model under your Durango yet? Great idea but I'd like to hear from someone who actually was able to fit one under a Durango.
