As I am reading the latest responses I'm sitting in my D waiting to pick up one of my kids. Another parent just knocked on my window and told me how cool the racetrack light is on the back of my car! Talk about perfect timing.

 

I'm all in, I don't want a used 2013 due to the fact they don't have the racetrack tail lights.

 

My only issue with them is that there is a zero chance a cop will lose you in a sea of red tail lights!im pretty sure a blind cop could find our Durango's!!

 

Not too long back I was on the 465 loop around Indy at night and in front of me scattered across 5 lanes of traffic moving at 70 mph were 3 Chargers and 2 Durangos, all with racetrack rear lighting. Looked like Star Wars and they were all hunting something down. Made all of the other normal vehicles disappear in reality.

 

I can live with that, Brian, because if a cop is chasing my Drango, it has been stolen.

 

Picking up 2017 R/T fresh off the line tomorrow, can't imaging this without the "racetrack" tails.

 

I really like the race track lights, but then again, I like all visual aspects of the Durango, which is why I choose it over a Ford Explorer, Mercedes GL or any Chevy !
Besides, it stands out from the crowd.

They don't light up all the way across though, my MIL just got a new 2017 a few months ago. Its surprisingly nice inside, but the exterior looks take some getting used too to say the least.

 

Love the racetrack light on the Durango. Very specific to the Durango (shape) and you can sure tell its a Durango when you see one at night.

 

My favorite part about the track light is the switch under the dash so you can set the color.

Your brake lights would still need to be red. The track lights are just accent lighting. I know it would be majorly illegal to run in PA but other states allow different things. Ohio allows underglow lights and I've seen many with different color front turn signals such as green. So it would all depend on what the law says for each state some even go as deep as municipality laws.

This was actually a contributing factor when I traded my '13 for the '17. I love the look of these new lights, they make it look so much more like a sport SUV!

 

I love the racetrack rear lights. I was first drawn to it from the chargers...I almost got the charger, but we needed the extra seats for the kids.

 

Same only we don't have kids yet; but we have 2 dogs plus we will have kids before we replace the Durango so we needed the extra room over the GC.

Wife still really wants a Charger so my next vehicle will probably be a scat pak

 

When get a haircut the gal always asks me if I want square or rounded in the back.

I tell her I don't care because I never see the back of my head.

All this back and forth about the Racetrack tail lights. When your driving your Durango, you don't see them so who really gives a crap? If you don't like them don't own it go buy one of those sissy looking SUV's that look like a Soccer mom should be driving. The Durango is one of the last Manly looking SUV's left. If Dodge wants to use Racetrack tail lights on it and puts a HEMI in it, I'm completely cool with that.

It's all about the HEMI not the stupid tail lights.

 

Personally I love the taillights. The brighter the better, nobody will ever have the excuse they don't see me.
