How do you get under your Durango for servicing?

Yesterday I did my first oil change on the Durango at 10k. Dealer did the first two as part of the sale. I had to use these to get under it.

I was surprised just how low the front end is. My 68 firebird doesn't need the extensions. Lol. My next question is, with the front of the Durango up higher then the rear are guys/girls worried about the oil that doesn't drain from the rear of the pan? If the truck was level, it would be a problem.

Didnt know they made such a thing...

I gave up on the ramps... cause I couldnt get up on them... i shimmy my way under the passenger side door when doing oil changes... not very convenient... but it is doable..

I have a set of longer lower plastic ramps that work great. I am not worried about that splash of oil left in pan

I used these ramps. Never had a problem getting on them and my fat a$$ fit under the truck just fine. Click the pic for the Amazon link.

I'll have to take a pic of my ramp setup. I've had a pair of yellow metal ramps that have worked for every car or van I've had. until the 2011 Durango. that front end IS low and I don't even have the R/T suspension.

I went to Wal-Mart and bought (2) 18" concrete pavers for about $8 total. I put the pavers under the leading edge of the ramp (about 1/3 of the way onto the paver) and between the extra lift of going onto the pavers first and the extra angle to the ramps, the D rides right up.

I was going to buy the Rino ramps but my hesitation was storage. I don't have a garage and I wasn't keen on storing the plastic ramps outside in sunlight. I've had my metal ramps for 10+ years now and I was concerned the plastic of the Rino ramps would degrade over time with the UV exposure.

and part of me was pretty happy I solved my problem for $8. ;)

I would say anything under $50 for full synthetic change at a dealer would be a decent deal... I was quoted $280 for 4 which is $70 each..

I do them at home for about $40 worth of materials

I just jack it up with my floor jack and put it on stands front and rear, then lay down on my creeper and do the job. Really quite simple.

I use Mobile one, and a Mobile one filter, DIY. Under 40 bucks if you catch it on sale.

We have 2 pairs of those Rino rams pictured above, and you can get the D up on a pair easy as pie. I use 4low because I have it, but my guess it is just as easy with 2wd. Folks have stated that they are weak and can crush under load (see all the amazon reviews) but I have had a 5500lb Raptor up on four of them and it was rock solid - just don't use them on a gravel driveway... I don't worry at all with the D up on a pair of them.

I dunno, I've been using Mobil1 forever.

Most likely, with my oil change schedules, I could use the cheapest oil on the planet and never have a problem.

But Mobil1 has never let me down..

I buy a case of Mobil 1 5w/20 when they have it on sale, usually $10 off a case puts you at $26 for six quarts at Costco. Even Walmart charges at least $23 for a five quart jug on sale. Then I purchase my Mopar oil filters on Amazon three at a time. For me, that is three years worth of oil filters. The touchless car wash I've been going to for years added oil change, etc., and last year I decided to try them out. They did great, so this year I went again. I bring my oil, filter and any other fluid they might need to top off. For $28.50 they do the work, admire my ride, and I get a free car wash ($15 value). I use to do the work on my '67 Mustang, then my '99 300M. But a back injury has put me out of commission and I have to pay someone else to do it. Sigh.

I have read on here another member uses the Corvette jacking pucks that fit in the oval hole on the front lower control arm and flipped over work on the back in a round hole.

I like the idea here as I was never a big fan of ramps. Probably my fear on ramps is due to using a set of pretty steep ones on a civic one time without much of a "rib" to prevent overshooting it...and I overshot it, whoops.

Fortunately never had that happen, but I have had one side scoot out while I was driving the car up them. Ugh. Odd sensation suddenly having the car list badly to one side.
