Well, on another related note, I managed to wash my key fob last night. Left it in the pocket of my jeans, and into the washer it went. Had no idea it was there until the panic alarm went off on the DD and could not locate the fob to turn it off. Seems the spin cycle caused something to press on the panic button on the fob. Got the key out and so far it's still functioning normally. Can't hear any water sloshing around in it, and none dripped out. Time will tell if any damage was done, but it seemed to be water proof last night.
Yes but salt water will be a different story I suspect. Anyhow, have you tried just taking the battery out of the fob? That way you can just leave it in the center console bin and not worry about the alarm going off when you come to unlock with the key. Just a thought...
