How low is low?

 

Well 1000-1500 RPM, reason why i say i feel it’s to low is because I’ve drove a charger with a 5.7 and the idle was a little bit higher say 2000+ range, It has a little more pep to it vs sitting on the low end and having to ramp up. Even with the PC installed.

 

Idling at 2k rpm? No way. Most street vehicles idle around 700 rpm. Even 1k rpm is too high.

Maybe it’s just me but the idle for mine just seem to low,

 

At anything above 1k rpm (generally), the vehicle will be fighting hard against the brakes at a stop. The torque converter only slips for so long. The transmission will start to get hot.

True , i know in traffic today it’s sitting around 13-1500rpm.. maybe i need to make some further adjustments to the PC, same before without the PC but it feels like no in between of low end and to high end power

 

That seems awfully high to me...

Haha, 2,000k RPM idle? "See what I want to do is have a preset cruising speed, I left off the brake on the freeway on ramp and then I don't have to do anything else to reach 82mph." <what about in town traffic and what not?> "Well see if I'm creating a smoke show power braking in traffic people eventually move out of the way, I'm off the brake pedal and back at 82mph highway speeds...mic drop".

 

The only thing I can think of is you want a higher cruising RPM. Idling along at the speed limit, no??

 

Dodges have an idle RPM by temperature in the tuning. Cold starts will hold anywhere from 1,000-2,000 upon startup to heat oil quicker and to lubricate the valve train then shortly will return to 700-850 rpm.

 

The answer I was looking for. I was trying to keep that same idle range instead of it dropping back so low.

 

More like a high idle to heat the catalytic converters for emissions reasons. Modern oil/engines do not need software tricks to have functional lubrication.

 

But as was stated, idling that high constantly will cause problems. There's a reason it drops down when the vehicle heats up. 2k rpm is cruising speed at 80 mph. Your transmission will be fighting the brakes at a stop, which will cause the transmission to overheat. Your brakes will wear faster fighting to keep the vehicle stopped. It's not designed to idle that high constantly.

The 4.7L idle is 500. So the Hemi idle is not low.

 

running at those speeds all the time will cause damage to the entire driveline, resulting in mucho expense. Is not the cruise adaptive? Doesn't it slow down with traffic? If so just use that. Set your speed and when it slows down just tap the accelerator and it will speed up (like a rocket).
