- $600 in stock parts
- $580 in labor at a local wrench
- start to finish in under 4.5 hours :!:

Issues: The replacement blower fan while running is what I'd consider double the noise level now. The stocker replacement gasket on the blower housing was typical gasket material while OEM installed gasket was gooey. I think I'll turn the fan on high and test around the gasket with a flame to look for vacuum leaks and if discovered, seal 'em up.

The evap was toast, the heater core very dirty and leaky (didn't know until the tell tail green signs of antifreeze was inside the housing.) The blower rattled as low speeds ever so slightly so while in there? it only made sense to replace it too.

All of the face mounted removables come out of the D. The dash then gets dropped at the column and pulled out as far as possible over the passengers side. Note the bungie cord supporting the dash on the passengers side attached up at the top of the seatbelt

Damn that looks like fun lol
It's quite daunting to see your D in that situation. You can only imagine how many things could go wrong from there!

Shoulda built yourseld a custome dash while it was all out and apart like that.
Well?

Can't mention that yet? you don't see any finished photos do ya?!
(Eh Rick? how's the fiberglass coming along? How about a pic? :) )

4.5 Hours!!
Then I'd have to say you found a GOOD local wrench!
Glad to hear you won't be destroying the OZONE LAYER This year with a boatload of 134a leaking out. :cheesy:
When Mine goes I'm coming to Indy to get it done by your guy!

4.5 hours is lightening fast --- it took my quality mechanic shop a full day to perform that same surgery on my D!

Looks familiar to my old 93 dak heater core setup, bungies and everything! 4.5 hours, I'll drive to Indy to have mine done! I remember it taking me 3 half days to get mine done. Whew!

Oh yea? my office is right next door so you get to visit with me at work too!! I got to watch right out the window while they did it all. And get this? it was done? OUTSIDE!

Anyone wanting it done? and willing to come to Indy to have it done by my guys? I'll buy lunch/dinner while you're here! Just let me know and we'll get with them to get it scheduled.

I went to the stealer, got my parts and came with all the parts ready for the install still brand new and in the box.

If you get them to do it on a Friday? and can stay for Saturday? I'll even play tour guide of Indianapolis!

I'll be doing this job to my D soon, some of you may remember in March I had a water leak on the inside at the passenger's side?it turned out to be not a leaky door gasket but condensation from the A/C / Defroster? don't use the A/C, no problem? I have already bought the Evap Core and Heater Core, I didn't give thought to the blower motor.

I'll too. I turned the A/C on and filled the interior with vapor that smelled of anti-freeze. I'll be doing like Indy and replacing the evaporator and heater core, just to be safe.

Mike, inspect the core after you get it out. I bet it'll be like mine and leaky but you didn't know it.

Good luck on the swap. It's quite the task? even to just watch

Yeah Mike, I agree with Indy.

In my situation, even though my leak is water and not antifreeze, and after months of searching and changing door gaskets, windshield sealing, etc?I have isolated the problem to condensation in the heater box? I still bet my core is going because for the last year when I first put the heat on you get that distinct odor for half a second.
