I think someone here has a Special Service version without the third row, and maybe some storage in that area. That's probably the only way to get one without the third row from the factory.

That search lead me down a strange path without any direct answers to my question. But indirectly, I somehow ended up with Billy Gibbons of ZZTop at Daryl's house which was a pretty good

I don't think the Special Service parts will show up in any parts breakout, but I may pull the seats in the late Spring to see what I can do. It should be pretty easy to reclaim that space.

 

I have... When I was installing my emergency equipment and pre-running wires... This also shows the rear storage tray removed, but the sub enclosure still installed...

I'm seriously thinking of doing the same thing. Miss all the room we had in the 2008 Grand Caravan. Never used the 3rd row in that one in the 6 plus years we had it so don't think I'll have any use for it in the Durango. I Bought the Durango over the JGC because of the extra length more than a third row seat.
Not sure how it will work with the jack mount and speaker hump. Going to look it over good before deciding.
I guess few have done such a thing by lack of comments.

I believe its 4 nuts on the back and 2 bolts on the front, then the 2 plugs for the headrest release, and thats it... The second row is the awkward one to get out, the third row was easy...

It takes up 85% of the back of the vehicle...with about 6-8 inches left between the box and the 2nd row. Its almost as wide as the back also.

We wanted it without the 3rd row...but it worked out.

Any of you guys who are removing the seat want to sell them. I got the Heat model with only first and second row. The family three kids were why did you get one with the extra row cause you know they cant sit next to each other. UGH.

 

You can get the base Durango with a bench seat and no 3rd row according to their website

Just for fun I was trying to locate the base 2017 SXT with no 3rd row option using Dodge own website ("Search New Inventory") and could not find a single one. Searched few random zip codes from 5 or 6 states... did not find a single one. This is by no means a scientific experiment but it would seem like dealers are not seeing any benefit of having such a large vehicle sitting on their lot with room just for 5.

I am just curious to see how the 'stock' 5 seater configuration looks like. If any of you can actually locate one, please do post a link here!

 

I have a SSV without 3rd row and extra storage compartments. I love it. Had a Gen 2 with 3rd row and I was always taxi, now I just say "No room"

having 2 3rd gen Durangos, it sure would be nice if one was only a 5 seater... typically we use the wife's (2011 Crew with bench) for the grocery getter and kid hauler (leaving the 3rd row folded down 99% of the time) and mine (14 Limited with captains) for work or hauling more than 4... the pass through to the 3rd row is a MUST when you have 2 kids in car seats.

There's multiple part numbers for the same part, such as FRAME. Left. Cargo Area part number 5LC37XXXAD at $134, and then FRAME. Left. Cargo Area part number 5LJ41XXXAD. Both are labeled as part 2, and from the drawing part 2 is the bin. I'm not sure what the other serials indicate. They read [-X5], [CF9], [-X9] or read [-X5], [CFP] OR [CF9], [RC3]. This and the price are the only differences, and both are listed as fitting my D.

 

I think the X9 and others are colors or trim color?

No clue. I'm going to call and talk to the service department to get clarification. I don't have the second row bench either, so I'll have to do some additional mods anyways.

I'd be curious to see an SSV with the rear compartments removed... to compare to a 3rd row... I have a pic.. or can easily get more or my entire rear out and with just the seats only out
