Hi guys,

I was just wondering if anyone has successfully installed a plug and play hid kit that didn't involved any modification to the dust covers or any wires. I currently have a 2017 DD GT with decent lights right now. I am looking for a whiter and brighter light than I have. I just want a kit that will involve to be installed easily without any major mods to the truck. I understand I will be a canbus or anti-flicker module to make sure the computer doesn't bring up any error messages. Can anyone suggest a product of this nature that I have just described? Pictures would also be nice!

Thanks a bunch!

I wondered the same thing but in my case the answer was no. I ended up putting the upgrade on hold until the weather got warmer. Save yourself the trouble and time, do what steps are recommended. I will be doing my upgrade the next full weekend my wife has off just in case I'm unsuccessful completing everything in one day, her car will be available.

How would I go about modifying the dust cover to fit the hid kit? Am I drilling a hole to fit the wires through? Any guidance is appreciated! Also I was looking at the morimoto kit since its high quality. Finally, would anyone know the part number for the dust covers? I want to purchase a second pair since my car is a lease and when I give it back I'll be restoring the factory headlights and covers. I can't find a part number anywhere online.

Ok so I just attempted to install a plug and play HiD kit in my 2016 DD and was UN-successful. No mater which way installed the plugs. I thought maybe it was the bulbs but I even tried the spare set of bulbs i bought and no good. I'm gonna try the install again tomorrow with the relay harness and let you guys know how it goes. Did you connect ur negative leads to bolt indicated to the left of the fuse box? also I cant see exactly where your your poistive lead went. Thank you for the pics tho! I'm going to be using resistors as well and they need to be attached to metal as they get hot. So much wiring and harness to mount and place properly lol

Yes the ground is under that stud which is the ground point for a jump. It unscrews easily. The positive is just to the right of the ground under the fuse cover also attached to the positive terminal. I wouldn't recommend the resistors tho I heard horror stories. The kit I bought uses the capacitors in place of resistors and they work great. I would recommend the full opt-7 as it has everything u need for the install for under $100.

Hey so I'm probably returning the morimoto kit as I do not want to use a component that may or may not blow up on me. Can you send me the link of the exact kit you bought. Also do u actually have to plug in the fuse holder that is connected to the relAy? And is there an install diagram you used to install this?

Shit your right I'm sorry. I was thinking about my charger lol. So, you will need to run the factory wire through the grommet. Plug the factory wire into the extension wire, then Using a very small eyeglasses flat head screw driver from the bottom of the ballast side slip the screwdriver in and slowly pull the wires out. Feed those through the rubber grommet and then connect the wires back into the clip you will here a click when there secure. Just make sure you don't switch up the wires.

Those are sick man! Mine are a little different but that's only because I'm using the 55w ballast instead of a 35w. To get that blue tint I would need to use 6500k or more bulbs. However, my ballasts r kinda loud like u can hear them when the lights are on and the car is off. Not enough to make me worry but something I thought was odd

So now I have a new issue. I installed another morimoto kit for my fog lights and when I turn the car on, only one side turns on. Everything is wired correctly. I don't understand. I even got the side they wouldn't to turn on to light up by turning the fog light switch on and off but this is annoying. Has anyone else run into this issue when installing fog light hid kits ?

Hey, so I apologize for bringing up such an old thread but I’ve been looking everywhere without much luck. I have a 2015 limited with halogens and bought the 2015+ morimoto elite kit. I’m just curious where people are mounting the resistors for the lights. I looked and can’t find a good spot and can’t find any answers online. Also I saw in this thread some people mentioned not using the resistors. Can I install this kit with out them? Sorry for all the questions on such an old thread but hopefully someone can help me.

Resistors get very hot. Best thing is to get a couple of aluminum strips, about 1/4" thickness, 4"-5" in length, that should be enough to dissipate the heat, and mount the resistors on the ends of those and then you can attach the other end to practically any panel under the hood. Check home depot or lowes hardware section, they usually have flat or angle stock there.
