Looks like it was over-greased and pushing out of the boot. I would keep an eye on it, but it should be fine.

 

Do you know what the metal ring on the top of the boot does? Is it a seal or a weep hole?

It's possible that your new ball joint may have been damaged during the install. Overfilling the grease can cause the mess you see. If the boot is torn, or not secured to the bottom area it should be, I'd take it back where it was installed, unless the project was DIY.

Well I cleaned it up around noon and took it around to run some earrings and it's got even more grease than before. So I'm starting to think its damaged.

 

It looks like the top ring is seated properly, but the bottom might have pulled out a little In the one shiny spot. From what I can tell the boot is not ripped, just overfilled. Some things are made to push the old grease out as you pump new in, most ball joints you just want a couple pumps and you watch the rubber “swell” back out. This type is not designed to push grease out. A lot of the bigger shops have the battery powered grease guns and they over grease them. I think you will probably be ok once the excess grease is pushed out, you can always pop back in and show them.

 

Squeeze the boot with 2 fingers and look where it comes from. On most of the ones I have used that are greaseable, there is a pinhole to let pressure out so the boot doesn't tear. But I agree with Shelby that it was likely just overfilled. I don't think it will harm anything besides the annoyance to wipe it off until the excess grease is out.

 

Replacement upper control arms come with new ball joints so no reason to service...or did you have just the ball joint replaced?
Either way...its damaged.

 

Yeah, they installed moog control arms not happy that they failed in less than 2000 miles. It wouldn't be a huge deal if it didn't make the steering take more force than normal.
