While at CA4WD Sierra Trek last year I needed to replace my running boards and decided on Rock Rails/Sliders/Bar. Already having experience with Running Boards, and not that confident about Nerf Bars being tough enough I went with a custom set of Rock Rails designed, built and installed by Jerod in Livermore CA. Although I haven't painted them yet I thought I'd post some pictures of them especially since my Durango was setting upon a small pile of rocks that we used to test them out before I left.

Looks great!

Nice job on the rock rails DBear.

With the Rancho lift and the rock rails it looks like you're ready for the rough stuff.

Feel like posting a price on them?

Thanks,
Bill Thornton

It cost me just over 500 installed. I have a couple more pictures that Jerod took showing the rails under some stress carrying some of the weight of the D sitting on the rocks. I'll post them latter.

Looks good DBear. Are those welded to the frame or bolted on? Just wondering.

They're welded on. Jerod built the rails first then we position the rail where we wanted then measured each connecting piece to fit before welding.

The way I see it no paint will stand up to the rocks. So what I have done so far is wire brush and sand down the rails to make sure there's a clean surface and to remove any rust, then used Rustoleum Primer after which I applied one coat of Rustomleum Flat Black. I still need to do the bracing from the frame to the rails. After which I'll sand and re-apply another coat. Although the flat black looks cool, I'm starting to think I may want to go with semi-gloss. The cool thing about paint is you can always fix it.

If they get scraped up and they'll I'll just sand down the affected area and reapply the coatings. When we tested them out before I left there was one area that got pretty scraped up and it only took me about 20 minutes to sand it down, no big deal. I guess you can call it fix-it in a can :)

George, they look great. Your right, "Repair-in-a-can" is the easy way to go.

Thanks Mike :) That's the only way I could think of to deal with it.

I still have a long ways to go to catch up with you though, give me another year or so - LOL
