My Fastman built 360 should be ready for install first week in February. The engine swap is gonna be done at a shop in Santa Monica, CA. With this new engine coming in, I plan on selling my OEM 360 with heads, valve covers, water pump, and oil pan (with Paxton return line.) Engine has 45K on it and runs with a knock. It probably needs at least rod and main bearings. Heads are good, never been overheated.

Mark - kinda surprised that Fastman didn't want your OEM 360 as part of a core replacement deal? :?: When I had the "Top End" mod done, part of the deal was that Fastman got my original OEM heads in exchange for his modded heads? :?

Anyway, good luck on your swap - hope she fires right up :!:

Rob,

He'd of liked to get the engine back, but shipping from CA to MN, would be too much.

The build got it's initial break in on the dyno today. I wanted something mild since I'm running a Paxton. I had him build it with Ported R/T heads, Harland Sharpe 1.6, Roller Rockers, and a mild.204 camshaft. It put out about almost 360HP and 400TQ at the crank, and that's without the Paxton. He said those were really good numbers since the compression ratio was kept low. Since mine is a daily driver, I wanted dependability and torque. I learned from my Harley build that on the street higher TQ numbers are what count. I basically went with whatever Dan suggested build wise.

I got the Paxton head unit back from Vortech today. They replaced the seals under warranty and installed a smaller pulley to kick my boost up to the 10 pound range.
Yesterday I finally ditched the crappy GS Motorsports Viper Brakes for the Stillen/AP Racing Big Brake Kit which is working just great.
Hopefully in the next week or so I'll have the motor swapped and then tuned by The Viper Shop.

It's all coming together.

Tuning

Mark, did you see my other post regarding tuning? Any info?

TIA

Bill

Viper Shop Tuning

It's under the G1 Performance forum I think. Anyway, my Q was about what they actually do when they tune your D at the Viper Shop. Do they mod the PCM on the fly? Or are they just optimizing a piggyback for your SC? Just wondering? hoping to pick up some tips? as usual. :D

To tell you the truth, I really don't know? The PCM has a base map program that was done by Dave Kasper at B&G. The flash was mapped according to the engine size and the mods. The Fastman says since my displacement is the same on the new engine and only the flow has been changed with the heads, cam and roller rockers, the timing curve in the base map should be fine.

At the Viper Shop, they hook up a laptop to a little black box made by a company called "SplitSecond". I think it ties into the PCM somehow, but I really can't explain how? Using the information they get from the dyno, the tech adjusts the fuel and timing as needed until the optimum AFR and timing is achieved across the entire powerband. They really listen for detonation.

I don't know if the "SplitSecond" box is actually going into the PCM and adjusting the PCM settings directly, or if it's sending altered sensor readings to the PCM so the PCM adjusts the fuel and timing as needed. I'll see if I can find out more when I take it back in.

Hope this helps.

PS. The engine is going back to Dan! Actually, he wanted the shipping crate back, the engine is just an extra for him.
