Gen 3 Durango Husky Liners Vs. Weathertech

Good Morning folks,

I received my Weathertech Cargo Liner yesterday for my '14 Durango. I also ordered all three rows of floor mats and they are due here today. That said, I left work well after dark last night and stopped at a local car wash to pull the Cargo Liner out of the box and see how it looks/fit in the back of the Durango. Needless to say, I was very disappointed. The mat actually needs to be about 5 inches wider as it does not cover from wheel well to wheel well in the back. At the very back edge of the liner, the back of the vehicle has a curve to the sill and the liner is straight. Those defects I could actually live with. What I do not think I can live with is that there is not a RIGID lip to the liner on all 4 sides. Where the third row seat belts come up, there is a cut “V” in the side of the liner. This would let spilled liquid (ie. Gallon of milk) leak though the edges. Also the side lips are not rigid enough and they simply relax and lay down. With the third row seats folded, the front of the liner is elevated above the rear by about two inches, and so liquid spilled at front will run to the back. It appears that the back of the Cargo Liner does not have a true lip, it simply lays flat, so anything spilled will run all the way to the back and onto the door sill and carpet. This is simply not acceptable.

So disappointed in fact, that I have not received the Weathertech floor mats yet and I just ordered a full mat set with cargo liner from Husky Liners. I have a full set of Husky liners in a 2009 Dodge Nitro and the edges of all mats and cargo liner have a full 2 inch rigid lip around them and I have never had an instance of them not keeping mud, snow, or spilled coffee, broken/leaking milk jug from grocery store, etc. from damaging my carpets. It was too dark last night to take photos to send you of the mis-fit and poor liner lips, but I will attempt to do that this afternoon and add to this post. I have heard good things about Wheathertech floor mats and like the thickness I saw in someone elses mats, but the descriptions on Weathertech's website are not sufficient to tell all features. The two floor hooks that keep the carpet mats in front in place on the Durango appear to be “cut out” in the Weathertech mats and I cannot tell from photos or description if this is the case, but they look cut out on the website photos. The Husky liners have a bump in the mat to cover the hooks, but the mat is not “cut out” to accommodate the hook and so no leak worries.

At a minimum, I believe I will return Cargo Liner to Weathertech. One of the full sets will also be returned. I will further evaluate once I receive the Weathertech floor mats today. Then I will box them up and wait a couple more days and install the Husky Liners when they arrive. I promose to continue this post with photos of the mats installed. I am pretty sure the Husky Cargo Liner will be preferable. I have ordered tan as I have the light frost tan interior and I prefer to lighten the interior of the vehicle with the mats. I am not a fan of the black carpet. With the light frost tan interior (see my photos in Sandstone Pearl Coat thread) the headlier and door panels are also tan which substantially brightens interior over the black headliner with other interiors.

That's a great comparison video. Thanks Derek.

I installed the Husky X-Act Contour on 1st & 2nd rows and absolutely love them. They feel like rubber, have some weight to them, hold a perfect shape, and don't move. I like the lip that goes onto the door sill. It covers it by 1/4" to ensure mud doesn't leak into the carpet. The "DODGE" logo is fully readable. If that's not your thing, you could easily cut that piece off. I have Weathertechs in my truck. They are OK, but have that hard, plastic-like feel with a marginal fit. I knew I wouldn't like the Weatherbeater AS well since it's described as a harder, more plastic-like liner.

Email Husky. Ask them to make a 3rd row for the X-act Contour!! The more emails they get, the better. Their response was "this is a new product and we are constantly taking customer input and adding more models.

I got the Mopar cargo mat for when the 3rd row is up. Great mat.

But, for when the 3rd row is down, I am not a fan of getting "rolling up" a Weatherbeater or Weathertech. What happens when we're on-the-fly and I need to pick up other people and we have some actual CARGO to haul, too?

Seriously considering the 3D Maxpider Kagu Cargo Liner. They also appear to be somewhat newer to the market. Anyone with first-hand experience? I like that it folds up but has a firm shape. They make 1st/2nd row liners as well.

I went with Weatherbeaters and ironically ordered that Maxpider two days ago. They are scheduled to be here Wednesday. I guess I'll see then if I like them

I also wouldn't be able to stand the tailgate not closing due to the corners of the weatherbeater cargo liner sticking out too much. Thought they're supposed to be made to fit our specific vehicles perfectly?? Don't they test their sh!t out first? We shouldn't have to fcuk with a supposedly high end product like the weatherbeater cargo liner(like trimming it off or heating it up and reshaping it, etc) in order to make it fit so that the friggin tailgate will close!

It is made for the vehicle. The only reason it needs to be reshaped is because the durable material is so stiff and they roll it up in order to be able to ship it. If you take something made of that kind of material and have it rolled up for days on end while it's waiting to ship and then a couple more days while actually being shipped, then it's going to need to be laid out so it can get it's original shape back. It's just common sense. Mine only had to be laid out for a day (it was winter, I had the heater going in my house so the room it was in was already warm). It only required slight coaxing to curl the edge at the tailgate to it's original shape. No trimming or other mauling of the liner was required and my lift gate closes just fine. You're griping for no reason.

Yeah, that's seriously confusing.

FWIW, here are the part numbers for the 3D cargo mats in black:

7 Seat model:
Part #: M1DG0061309
Behind 3rd Row Seat

5 Seat model:
Part #: M1DG0071309
Behind 2nd Row Seat

Let me know how you like it. I'm satisfied. I have the Weatherbeaters in 1st and 2nd row. I just threw the regular floor mats on top of them. I liked the look of the factory mats and didn't want to lose that.

Didn't cancel JC Whitney order soon enough, so they shipped the Lloyd Northridge cargo mat and it arrived today. They said I could do an RMA, but will probably have to pay shipping. I might keep it, just for hauling dogs! I could switch between Lloyd and Kagu as needed. Here's a pic of the dogs. Pitbull on left is 85 pounds, Brasilian Mastiff on right is 120 pounds. It takes a DURANGO to haul them at the same time. LOL

Nice dogs! What are their names?

I personally just went with the Mopar slush mats for 1st, 2d, and 3rd row as well as the cargo liner. I just like the Durango lettering in the 1st row and then the designs in all the mats how they match the front grill and they offer more than enough protection for me and my family.

The pitbull is Riley. She will be 7 years old at the end of May. The Brasilian Mastiff is Belle and she is 11.5 years old. The common name is Fila. In Portuguese the verb filar means "to hold". They were developed in Brasil over 200 years ago by breeding English Mastiff, Bloodhound and an indigenous Brasilian dog.

Here's a picture of Belle shortly after we rescued her.

Another of Belle looking intently at something down the street.

Fila are currently used in the Brasilian police force, similar to German Shepherds and Belgian Malinois here in the states. They have a very hard temperament, commonly called a "distrust" of strangers. A natural protection dog. I rescued a 4 month old, Elsa, about 20 years ago and got hooked on the breed. Belle came into our lives when she was 2 years old. A rescue that was under weight and with a very hard temperament. She's mellowed a little in the last few years, but will still protect as she sees fit.

Here's a picture of Riley when she was a cute little puppy.

And a more current picture of her out in our backyard.

And one of Belle, smiling.

Got the Kagu today and installed it. Really like the versatility if this cargo area liner. Almost immediately my Dad asked me to take an old beat up couch to the local trash dump. The cargo liner let me slide the couch into the cargo area with no problems. With 2nd and 3rd rows folded flat the rear door shut with about an inch to spare. This was an 80 inch long couch!

I also returned the Lloyd cargo mat I had purchased from JC Whitney. They let me do an RMA, but I had to pay UPS the $25 to ship it back to the fulfillment center. Oh well, live and learn. Just wish their description had been better, since they don't use actual photos of the product on their website.

Can someone who has the Husky X-act's tell me whether the piece that goes right along the door sill is raised up, if so how much?

For example if I was getting in or out could I catch my foot on it?

Nah you wont trip on it

I order the same husky liner weather beaters too. I prefer them to the weather tech due to the pattened cleats on the bottom to hold them in pace.

I was not so wild about the cargo liner since it seems to only be good for when the 3rd row is down.
I may check out that mopar liner for back there.

How do you guys like the kagu mat? Saw the previous pics. It feels a bit thin/cheap for the price. Fit is generally ok, except around where the 3rd row seat belts are. Seems ok but wondering if anyone has found better options. I like the fact it can handle both with 3rd row up and down. I'll test it out tomorrow when I take my dog to daycare

I just got my Kagu mat for my new R/T yesterday and Jaybert, I agree with all your comments. It is a lot thinner and flimsier than I expected for a >$100 mat. However, if it is indeed waterproof it will probably work well for us. I just hope that it lasts. I got mine from one of the sponsors on this site: autoaccessoriesgarage.com. They gave me 15% off and the same for the Huskyliner mats I ordered for the first two rows. I went with the OEM Durango mat for the third row and the local dealer gave me 10% off just for asking.

My feelings exactly. I wish it were better, but it's definitely the best I've seen so far.

I wish the MOPAR one would fit with the 3rd row down and up. I'd get it in a minute, if so.

I just ordered the MOPAR mats for the first two rows. We'll hardly ever use the 3rd row, at least thats the plan at the moment. I can always pick up the 3rd row mat if things change. I have a generic mat for behind the 3rd row that was in my trailblazer, good enough for now, almost same dimensions as the MOPAR.

Like everyone else, I wish MOPAR had a mat for the folded down third row. Perhaps this will be something they will make for the coming model year, isn't it an option have the the 3rd row delete? I thought I read that on here somewhere. I did see where a few members were using garage mats from Lowes / homedepot. Not a bad idea and may pick one up if I'm in a pinch, I just need to keep the dirt from a stroller off everything. Our dog is small enough that she sits on the bench seat in the second row with a seat cover to keep her fur out of everything, and mud should she manage to find any.

I just pulled the trigger on the Husky X-act Contour for first and second row and weatherbeater for the third row. I have three kids and need the most protection necessary! My last vehicle was a Ford Expedition EL King Ranch and I had the factory rubber mats which seemed similar to the Dodge slush mats. We had a tough winter in Michigan last year and I subsequently had salt stains on my carpet from lack of coverage from the factory Ford mat. I also had a 2009 Jeep SRT 8 and purchased the Weathertech liners for the first and second row. I was very impressed with the coverage of the Weathertech line but wasn't a huge fan of the hard liner. I think the X-act Contour should fill all of my needs for the fall, winter, and spring here in Michigan. Looks like a great product and I cant wait to get them installed in the Durango, I wish there was a X-act Contour third row but you cant see the third row anyway!

I bought the same thing based on comments here. You will like that setup, the third row Weather Beater is made from harder materials, but it still works well and covers the area under the 2nd row seats very well. I previously owned Weather Tech mats in a previous vehicle and liked them as well, but I prefer the rubber-like feel of these mats even more.

Wow! Lots of great info in this thread. Thanks for all of the clarifications in here. I think I'm going to go with the X-act Contours for the 1st (I like that the lip goes slightly over the door sill to give more coverage) and 2nd (to match the first, I actually like the Weatherbeater design for the hump better but figured these two should match in material) and the Weatherbeater for the 3rd. As for the Cargo area, I went with Canvasback. Looks like a great product.
