I'm still battling with my P0456 Evap leak code. It rears it's ugly head now and then and, when it does, I do a battery disconnect reset and the CE light takes a break. Yesterday I decided I was tired of the light and removed the negative cable for a bit longer, depressed the brake pedal, and then hooked it back up. The CE light is now off of course, but now I have no CD player!

When I first climbed back into the D after the reset, I could hear the changer moving around, but later on when I pushed the mode button, nothing happened. I can't get the 6 discs in there to eject and it won't play them. The radio portion works fine.

The thing has worked flawlessly and my hope is there's some type of hard reset I can do to fix this? A Google search turned up several folks who've had the same thing happen, but so far no remedy or silver bullet for a fix.

Don,

Sometimes there's a tiny hole around the front or back that's the reset button. not sure if your model has it, but if you can post a pic I can try to help you further. sometimes it's hidden in the corner of the unit and you may have to use a needle or paperclip to reset it.

One thing I've noticed with the NAV radio in my Ram is it won't eject the disc every once in a while. When this happens I do a power cycle from ignition switch which works. I also did a negative battery terminal removal and it worked on another stoppage.

Since I'm kind of an OEM type guy and this D has the rear DVD unit which is tied into my dash radio, I think sticking with the one in there's prudent. So far I've located a place in Effingham, IL that'll replace the 6 CD changer mechanism and ship it back to me with my CD's removed for $130. The hard part is going to be cruising without tunes for a week or two.

Green,

Have yet to extract it from the dash to look for a reset button. Can't see one from the front as far as I can tell, but I'll get back to you once I get it out and give it a good looking over. Also, from what I've read on the internet, this particular unit (RAQ) with its in-dash 6 CD changer is know to quit with little to no warning.

If it's not a quick and easy repair, then replace it with a better aftermarket unit, which is what I'd do.
As noted above, he'll lose the rear DVD if he does that.

Everything I have read on these units say they're junk. If it's not a quick and easy repair then replace with a better aftermarket unit, which is what I'd do.
I just put a RAQ unit in my Ram not too long ago and have had no issues with it so far. I paid $50 for a remanufactured unit off eBay. My truck came with all the goodies factory like Bluetooth phone and Sat radio so it's not worth it to me to go all out aftermarket, especially when it's already wired and the factory setup works and sounds great.

Good point and one that I didn't pick up on.

Another good point.

I'm getting butchered here - and I deserve it. Excellent observations on both of your parts gentlemen.

Update!!

After making a weekend trip to Bloomington IL to visit Grandma in the D, I finally removed the radio to send it out for repair.

Removal is pretty simple
  • Remove two 7mm screws in the top of the bin just in front of the console storage tray.

GENTLY pull the entire bezel from the dash. There'll be wires to the HVAC as well as the power outlet and Traction Control switch if equipped. You don't need to unplug any of them.

Remove the four 7mm screws securing the radio into the dash.

Slide radio outward and there should be 2 harness connectors on the back left and the antenna connection on the right rear.
I'm impressed! I shipped it to Replacementradios.com in IL yesterday via UPS, it arrived TODAY and, a little while ago, I got an email from them stating the repair is done and it's already been shipped back out.

I hope to have it here tomorrow to reinstall as driving any distance at all with no radio or chatter SUCKS!!

Gents,

I'm quite happy to report my D is with radio again! Time will tell if the repair holds, but so far so good.

It still blows me away that I dropped this thing at UPS on Tuesday and it arrived in my driveway today repaired and well packed after a trip from Oxford OH to Effingham IL. Got to say major kudos to Radioreplacements.com for their turnaround time.
