Hi everyone. I have always paid to have car detailed and done with it. I have a silver 18 RT. Can someone give me a listing of everything I need to detailing? Looking good for good stuff. Soap, clothes, wax, waxed, clay, leather treatment. Everything. Also, what’s deal with clay??? Is it hard to do? Any risks doing myself?

Glarensen,

I run a mobile detailing business. Claybar removes the stuck on contaminants and makes the paint smooth, down side to that is it slightly scratches the paint. If you lubricate the paint enough, the scratching will be minimzied. I recommend a pressure washer and foam gun when it comes to claying. You foam up the area of the car and then use a clay lube to be safe on the area you want to clay and then use the clay on that area. Adams polishes can be expensive as can shine supply. go to www.autogeek.com for the tools you will need and chemical guys for the soaps and leather cleaning/treatment.

Tools
I recommend 6 wash mits. Typically it's been told to use three buckets. 1 for the wheels and tires, and 2 buckets for washing (clean water and soapy water). But I find using 6 wash mits minimizes the scratching as your using a cleaner mit on the paint --- wash this video

6 mitts, one bucket of soapy water, 1 empty bucket for dirty mit to be washed after.

Sealant (Preferred over Wax, protects better and lasts longer)

Drying Blower works well if you don't have an air compressor, less wiping = less scratching.

So does Adam's Polishes if you sign up there too.

OP, detailing is not hard to do, just time consuming depending on what your doing at the time. Don't need to go all out, and get power tools and the works. Just start off small and work your way to getting what you can when you can. One brand is not always better than another, most of them are good IMO. Like others have said, Google is your friend, and YouTube also has some great videos for starting out. Just use a good, well known product line, and using it correctly will give you great looking vehicle!

You can do so much detailing your own vehicle. I used to have my own detail company so used to doing it. Did 2 coats of Car Pro Cquartz UK and a coat of Car Pro Reload the other day and my DDSRT paint looks like liquified supended black paint. Amazing. Plus it's hydrophobic so take a wet car after it rained, hit 50mph, dry car lol.

Question for you. I am halfway done polishing my DD. Sometime tomorrow I am applying CQuartz UK to coat it. How long after your forst coat did you wait before applying a second. And I guess one more question, when did you apply the Reload? I have heard an hour after the last coat, and I've heard to wait 24-48 hours. Personally I was going to wait the hour. Just curious, it's my first time with a Ceramic.

I think I have answered my own question. It sounds like you want to wait an hour after you apply the first coat, then apply the second. Same thing applies to the reload after the second coat is on. Now to finish polishing it up to look good for the Ceramic.

Apply one coat, 1 panel section at a time and buff it off about a minute later. work your way around the car. You wanna give that stuff about an hr to start curing before applying a second coat so by the time you do the entire vehicle you can probably make another rounds in 30 mins or so. If you are getting no rain in the immediate forecast, wait for 24hrs+ to apply relaod. it can be applied after 1hr but longer the better in that 24hr window. Also after 2nd coat of cquartz uk walk around and look at the panels close up at different angles and make sure there's no haze left anywhere, if there is buff it out some more with a microfiber cloth. Once this stuff cures any unremoved haze would have to be polished off. Once reload is applied the vehicle can get wet from rain. It's still recommended that you hold off on washing the car for 7 days after cquartz was applied. Just gives it time to cure without interference. Get extra microfiber towels for both cquartz and reload, once those cloths become saturated with residue from buffing the stuff can be a pain to remove, especially reload. use a new cloth once any of these stuff just seems to be smearing around when you're trying to remove it. Take the cloths and wash them with dish soap soon after or trash them.

Thanks! I plan on keeping it in the garage for the duration, so after the second coat I'll let it sit for a day and then reload it. Did you coat the windows with Ceramic? I have glass sealant, but I like the idea of water running of the windows better.
